What is the Kramer PT-5R IR extender receiver?
The Kramer PT-5R is the receiver half of Kramer's PT-5T/PT-5R infrared extender and repeater system. It receives IR control signals from a PT-5T transmitter over twisted pair cable and repeats them to up to three remote devices through IR emitters, at distances of up to 250m (820ft). It lets a handheld remote or control system operate equipment hidden away in closets, cabinets or other rooms.
How does the Kramer PT-5R work?
The PT-5T transmitter picks up IR commands on its input and sends them over a CAT 5 twisted pair cable, while also driving two local IR outputs. At the far end, the PT-5R takes the CAT 5 input and drives three IR outputs, so the system can control two local and three remote devices such as players, amplifiers or air conditioners.
The system works with IR carrier frequencies of 36 to 40kHz and draws very little power from a 5V DC supply (6mA for the PT-5R). IR emitter cables such as the Kramer C-A35M/IRE single emitter or C-A35M/2IRE dual emitter connect the outputs to the controlled devices.
