Product Overview

The INOGENI UCAM is a USB camera and audio to HDMI converter designed for commercial AV installations where a USB camera must feed into an HDMI CODEC, matrix switcher, or display. Unlike standard USB capture cards that move video from HDMI into USB, the UCAM operates in the reverse direction — taking USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 camera video and audio output and converting it to HDMI with embedded audio. This makes it the correct solution for connecting AI USB cameras, PTZ cameras, and video bars to hardware CODECs such as Cisco Webex Room Series devices or display systems that accept only HDMI input. The UCAM also serves a secondary function as a USB tier solver, re-encoding video and audio into a fresh USB composite device to resolve USB hub cascade issues in complex AV installations.

Product Description

The INOGENI UCAM connects USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 cameras — including AI cameras with face tracking, auto-framing, and auto-zoom capabilities — directly to HDMI CODECs, matrix switchers, and displays, without requiring drivers on the host system. It captures video up to 1080p60 uncompressed (YUYV) from USB 3.0 cameras, or up to 1080p30 MJPEG from USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 cameras, and outputs to HDMI 1.4 at up to 4K30 with embedded audio. A secondary USB 2.0 output provides a 1080p30 MJPEG loop for monitoring or recording, while maintaining PTZ control passthrough. The UCAM features two USB inputs, IP and RS-232 control ports for integration with room control systems, and an external power supply input to power USB 3.0 camera devices. It is fully compatible with Logitech UC cameras (Rally, Rally Bar series, MeetUp, Scribe), Huddly Canvas whiteboard cameras, and professional AV brands including Jabra, Vaddio, HuddleCamHD, AVer, and Marshall. The UCAM has earned Best of Show recognition at InfoComm 2022 and is compatible with Barco ClickShare Conference. In its USB tier application mode, the UCAM re-encodes video and audio from a downstream USB device chain into a new USB composite device, effectively hiding USB hub tiers from the host computer — resolving bandwidth and connectivity problems in large AV setups using multiple USB extenders and switchers. It is field upgradable, designed and manufactured in Canada, and TAA-compliant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What direction does the UCAM convert video?

A: The UCAM converts USB camera video and audio into HDMI — the reverse of a standard capture card. It is used when a USB camera needs to feed an HDMI CODEC, matrix switcher, or display rather than a laptop or PC.

Q: Which USB cameras are compatible with the UCAM?

A: The UCAM is tested with a broad range of USB cameras and video bars including Logitech Rally, Rally Bar series, MeetUp, and Scribe; Huddly Canvas; Jabra; Vaddio; HuddleCamHD; AVer; and Marshall cameras, as well as standard USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 webcams.

Q: Can the UCAM be used with Cisco Webex room systems?

A: Yes. The UCAM is specifically designed to connect USB cameras including Huddly Canvas to Cisco Webex Room Series CODEC HDMI inputs. RS-232 and IP control ports allow integration with Cisco touch panels and control systems.

Q: What is the USB tier solver application?

A: In complex AV installations with multiple USB hubs, extenders, and switchers, USB tier cascading can cause bandwidth limitations, device dropouts, and connectivity issues. The UCAM addresses this by re-encoding the video and audio stream from downstream USB devices into a new USB composite device, hiding the USB hub tiers from the host computer and providing a stable connection.

Q: Does the UCAM support PTZ camera control?

A: Yes. The secondary USB 2.0 MJPEG output maintains PTZ control passthrough to compatible cameras. RS-232 and IP control ports are also available for room control system integration.

Q: Does the UCAM require driver installation?

A: No. The UCAM is plug-and-play on Windows, macOS, and Linux. No driver installation is required.

Q: What resolution does the UCAM output over HDMI?

A: The UCAM outputs to HDMI 1.4 at up to 4K30 with embedded audio when connected to a USB 3.0 camera with 4K capability. USB 3.0 uncompressed input supports up to 1080p60 YUYV; USB 2.0 and MJPEG sources support up to 1080p30.
