Product Overview

XTP II FT 402 8K MM (Multimode), part number 60-1779-11. The Extron XTP II FT 402 8K is a two-input 8K fiber optic transmitter that sends HDMI or DisplayPort video, audio, bidirectional RS-232, and 1 Gbps Ethernet over two fiber optic cables. It accepts data rates up to 40.1 Gbps, supporting HDMI resolutions up to 8K/60 including 5K for Microsoft Teams rooms, and DisplayPort resolutions up to 4K/60. Auto-switching between the two inputs removes the need for a separate switcher at the source position, and a local HDMI output feeds a confidence monitor. Multimode and singlemode versions match the installed fiber plant.

Product Description

Long-haul 8K extension is a different problem from 4K. At 40.1 Gbps, twisted pair is out of the question and the transport has to carry not just video but the control and network paths the room depends on, or those become separate pulls through the same conduit.

The XTP II FT 402 8K consolidates all of it onto two fibers. Video, embedded audio, bidirectional RS-232, and 1 Gbps Ethernet travel together, which means a remote room or a distant display position gets its display control and its network drop from the same AV infrastructure.

Two inputs are provided, one HDMI and one DisplayPort, with auto-switching between them. HDMI supports resolutions up to 8K/60, covering 7680x4320 at 60 Hz with 4:2:0 chroma and 10-bit color, 4:4:4 at 30 Hz, and 4096x2160 at 60 Hz with 4:4:4 and 12-bit. High frame rate operation reaches 3840x2160 at 120 Hz. DisplayPort supports computer and video resolutions up to 4K/60. HDCP 2.3 is supported throughout.

A local HDMI output at the transmitter serves a confidence monitor or local display, which is standard practice at a lectern or control position. Two versions are available: multimode (60-1779-11) for in-building and campus runs, and singlemode (60-1779-12) for the longer distances of multi-building and metro deployments. Pair with the Extron XTP II FR 401 8K receiver, or terminate into XTP II CP Fiber 8K I/O boards in a matrix frame.

Key Features

  • Two inputs with auto-switching — One HDMI and one DisplayPort input with automatic switching, removing a separate switcher from the source position.
  • 8K/60 over fiber — Supports HDMI resolutions up to 7680x4320 at 60 Hz at data rates to 40.1 Gbps.
  • DisplayPort support — Accepts DisplayPort computer and video resolutions up to 4K/60.
  • Video, control, and network together — Carries video, embedded audio, bidirectional RS-232, and 1 Gbps Ethernet over two fiber cables.
  • Local HDMI output — Feeds a confidence monitor or local display at the transmitter position.
  • 4K/120 capability — Supports 3840x2160 at 120 Hz for high frame rate applications.
  • 5K Teams room support — Handles 5K resolutions used in Microsoft Teams room layouts.
  • HDCP 2.3 compliant — Maintains protected content paths across both inputs.
  • Multimode and singlemode versions — Two part numbers match the installed fiber plant for campus or metro distances.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many fibers does a link require?

Two fiber cables per link. That carries video, audio, bidirectional RS-232, and 1 Gbps Ethernet together, so no separate control or network pull is needed to the remote position.

Should I specify multimode or singlemode?

Match the installed plant. Multimode (60-1779-11) covers in-building and campus runs; singlemode (60-1779-12) covers the longer distances of multi-building and metro deployments. Transmitter and receiver must be the same mode.

Does it switch between the two inputs automatically?

Yes. Auto-switching between the HDMI and DisplayPort inputs is built in, which removes a separate switcher from the source position in a two-source room.

What resolutions are supported on each input?

HDMI supports up to 8K/60 at 40.1 Gbps, including 5K for Teams rooms and 4K at 120 Hz. DisplayPort supports computer and video resolutions up to 4K/60.

What does the local HDMI output do?

It feeds a confidence monitor or local display at the transmitter position with the signal being sent, which is standard at a lectern or control position.

What terminates the other end?

Either the Extron XTP II FR 401 8K receiver for a point-to-point link, or XTP II CP Fiber 8K input boards in an XTP II matrix frame for a switched system.

What is the availability?

Extron lists this model as call for availability. Contact Creation Networks and we will confirm current lead time with Extron for your quantity.

What design support is available?

We can review fiber type, strand count, distance, and matrix pairing before you order, and coordinate Extron warranty and RMA handling.
