Product Overview

The Extron SMP 351 80GB is a 1U rack-mount H.264 recording and streaming media processor for professional AV environments. It accepts HDMI, component, composite, and optional 3G-SDI signals, applies two-window processing to selected sources, and can record and stream simultaneously at two different resolutions and bit rates. The 80 GB internal SSD provides up to 16 hours of local storage at 10 Mbps. Available at Creation Networks.

Product Description

The SMP 351 80GB processes two high-resolution AV sources from up to five available inputs: three HDMI (one with loop-through), component video, and composite video — with an optional 3G-SDI input. Channel A accepts HDMI or component/composite sources with a buffered loop-through to a local display. Channel B accepts composite, component HD, and HDMI. Both channels support computer-video formats from 640x480 to 1920x1200 and video from 480p to 1080p/60.

Sources are combined using flexible two-window arrangements — full screen, side-by-side, picture-in-picture — with up to 16 layout presets. H.264/AVC encoding produces MP4 (M4V) files stored to the internal 80 GB SSD, front or rear USB drives, or a defined network share via CIFS/SMB or NFS. Simultaneous streaming at two resolutions and bit rates supports overflow rooms, confidence viewing, and archive workflows. Push (RTMP, RTMPS, MPEG2-TS/UDP, Direct RTP) and pull (RTSP, HTTP-tunneled) streaming protocols are supported. FlexOS applications add integrations with Panopto, Kaltura, YuJa, Opencast, iCalendar scheduling, and FTP/SFTP file publishing. Available at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • Simultaneous Recording and Streaming — Record to the internal SSD or USB/network storage while streaming at up to two concurrent resolutions and bit rates without a separate PC or encoder.
  • 80 GB Internal SSD — Approximately 16 hours of local storage at 10 Mbps; first-in, first-out automatic file management with record locking for important sessions.
  • Two-Channel H.264/AVC Encoding — Archive and confidence streams at 512x288 to 1080p/30; bit rates from 200 kbps to 10 Mbps; High, Main, and Baseline profiles at levels 3.0–4.1.
  • Five-Input Signal Flexibility — Three HDMI inputs (Channel A has loop-through), component video, composite video, and optional 3G-SDI for camera-based or SDI-native workflows.
  • Flexible Two-Window Layouts — Combine Channel A and B in 16 customizable presets: full screen, side-by-side, PIP, or custom arrangements with PNG background and metadata overlay.
  • Dual LinkLicense Upgrades Available — Dual Recording and Streaming LinkLicense adds independent per-channel archive stream settings; platform-specific LinkLicenses add enhanced scheduling and live streaming for Panopto, Kaltura, and YuJa.
  • Extensive Streaming Protocols — Supports RTMP, RTMPS, MPEG2-TS/UDP, MPEG2-TS/RTP, Direct RTP, RTSP (pull), HTTP-tunneled RTSP, SAP/SDP, unicast and multicast.
  • FlexOS Platform — Embedded operating system supports Extron FlexOS applications for scheduling, publishing, and AV automation; vRCP virtual remote control panel via any browser.
  • Recording Metadata and Chapter Marks — Assign title, creator, subject, description, publisher, contributor, and date; place chapter marks during recording; auto-generate JPEG thumbnails.
  • Network File Sharing and Transfer — Publish recordings via CIFS/SMB, NFS, FTP, or SFTP; compatible with SMBv2 and SMBv3 for secure Windows file sharing.
  • Scheduling Integration — Import iCalendar (.ics) from Outlook, Google Calendar, and other services; integrates with Microsoft Exchange; SNMP and SMTP alarm reporting.
  • Compact 1U Rack Enclosure — 1.7" H × 17.5" W × 11.5" D; 30 W typical; internal Extron Everlast power supply with 7-year warranty.
