Product Overview

The DBX iEQ31 is a professional rack-mount dual 31-band graphic equalizer built for installed sound venues, live touring, and studio applications requiring precise frequency control. Combining 1/3-octave Constant Q equalization with integrated AFS feedback suppression, the iEQ31 delivers commercial-grade signal processing in a 2U chassis. Audio contractors and system integrators specify it for onboard Type V noise reduction and PeakStopPlus limiting, which protect loudspeakers and maintain signal integrity in demanding installations. Available at Creation Networks.

Product Description

The DBX iEQ31 dual 31-band graphic EQ delivers digital signal processing performance within an analog-style interface. Each of the two independent channels provides 31 bands of 1/3-octave equalization at ISO frequency centers, with 40mm faders for precise hands-on control. The switchable boost/cut range of +6 or +15 dB gives technicians the flexibility to apply fine room corrections or aggressive tuning without changing hardware. An 18 dB/octave 40Hz Bessel low-cut filter removes problematic sub-bass content before it reaches the amplifier chain. The built-in Advanced Feedback Suppression (AFS) automatically identifies and attenuates feedback frequencies, making it well suited for house of worship installations and auditorium deployments. Type V noise reduction suppresses broadband noise floor by up to 10 dB, while PeakStopPlus limiting guards against transient overloads. XLR, TRS, and Euroblock connectors accommodate permanent installation wiring as well as portable touring setups. The internal toroidal transformer and relay bypass ensure the signal path is protected even during power loss events. With a 24-bit/48kHz DSP engine delivering greater than 113 dB dynamic range and less than 0.003% THD+Noise, the iEQ31 meets the performance standards required for professional multi-purpose room and auditorium audio systems.

Key Features

  • Dual 31-Band 1/3-Octave Constant Q EQ - Two independent channels with ISO frequency centers for precise room correction and system tuning.
  • Advanced Feedback Suppression (AFS) - Automatically detects and attenuates feedback frequencies without requiring manual filter placement.
  • Type V Noise Reduction - Provides up to 10 dB of dynamic broadband noise reduction to keep the signal path quiet.
  • PeakStopPlus Limiting - Hard-limits output to protect loudspeakers from transient overloads and clip events.
  • Switchable Boost/Cut Range - Select +6 dB or +15 dB range to match the precision required by the application.
  • 18 dB/Octave 40Hz Low-Cut Filter - Removes sub-bass energy before it reaches power amplifiers and drivers.
  • Multiple Connector Types - XLR, TRS, and Euroblock inputs and outputs support both installed and portable wiring configurations.
  • 24-Bit/48kHz DSP Engine - Greater than 113 dB dynamic range with less than 2 ms latency for transparent signal processing.
  • Internal Toroidal Transformer - Isolates the power supply magnetically to minimize induced noise in the audio path.
  • Relay Bypass - Automatically bypasses the signal chain during power-off events to protect the connected system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the +6 dB and +15 dB boost/cut ranges on the DBX iEQ31?
The +6 dB range provides finer resolution for subtle room correction tasks where small adjustments matter. The +15 dB range gives greater correction headroom for problematic acoustic environments or aggressive voicing requirements. The selection is made via a recessed switch on the front panel.
How does AFS feedback suppression work on the iEQ31?
The Advanced Feedback Suppression system monitors the audio signal in real time and automatically places narrow notch filters at frequencies where feedback is detected. This happens without requiring the operator to manually identify problem frequencies, making it well suited for live events and installed speech reinforcement systems.
Can the iEQ31 operate as two independent mono channels or only in stereo?
The iEQ31 provides two fully independent processing channels. Each channel has its own EQ, AFS, noise reduction, and limiting controls, so it can be deployed as a stereo linked pair or as two discrete mono processors in separate signal chains.
Does the Type V noise reduction affect the tone of the audio signal?
DBX Type V noise reduction in the iEQ31 is designed to reduce the unit's inherent self-noise. It does not process or alter external noise sources already present in the signal chain, so it does not affect the tonal character of the program material.
What rack space does the DBX iEQ31 require?
The iEQ31 occupies 2U (3.5 inches) of rack space in a standard 19-inch equipment rack.
Is the iEQ31 suitable for permanent installed sound applications?
Yes. The Euroblock connectors, relay bypass protection, and internal toroidal transformer address the needs of permanent installations. The unit is appropriate for auditoriums, houses of worship, multi-purpose rooms, and similar commercial-grade audio systems.
