Product Overview
The DBX ZonePRO 641 is a 6-input, 4-output rack-mount digital zone processor built for commercial audio distribution in small-to-medium multi-zone installations where RS-232 integration and flexible open-architecture DSP are the priority. This dbx zone processor is well-suited to boardrooms, conference rooms, training rooms, and houses of worship that need automatic mic mixing, paging priority control, AutoWarmth psychoacoustic processing, and Advanced Feedback Suppression in a compact 1U form factor. The 641 shares the same 6x4 signal processing architecture as the 640, with a distinct front-panel layout suited to specific installation requirements and control system configurations.
Product Description
The ZonePRO 641 accepts 6 inputs: two switchable mic/line Euroblock balanced inputs and four unbalanced RCA source inputs. The two mic/line inputs include a built-in preamp with 30–60 dB of gain range, 15V phantom power for condenser microphones, and an equivalent input noise floor below -118 dB. Four RCA inputs accept streaming players, satellite receivers, and other consumer audio sources without external level converters, covering standard background music systems in commercial spaces.
The central routing matrix provides primary source selection across all inputs and outputs, source ducking for paging priority override, and a built-in real-time clock for time-of-day and day-of-week automation. Output processing per zone includes AutoWarmth psychoacoustic bass extension co-developed with JBL, per-zone parametric EQ, bandpass and crossover filters, output limiting, and adjustable delay for loudspeaker alignment. The dbx Type IV conversion system achieves greater than 119 dB A-weighted dynamic range, keeping the signal transparent across all connected zones.
Wall panel Zone Controllers (dbx ZC series) connect for end-user volume and source selection at each zone location. RS-232 control supports third-party integration with AMX, Crestron, and custom control systems. The analog input bus allows multiple ZonePRO units to share sources for scalable multi-zone audio distribution across larger facilities. ZonePRO Designer software provides Wizard-driven commissioning from a connected PC.
Key Features
- 6 Inputs / 4 Outputs — Two switchable mic/line Euroblock inputs and four RCA unbalanced source inputs feed four independent balanced output zones.
- Advanced Feedback Suppression (AFS) — Automatically identifies and notch-filters feedback frequencies on mic inputs, protecting paging and announcement channels in conference rooms and training rooms.
- AutoWarmth per Output Zone — Psychoacoustic bass extension co-developed with JBL maintains natural low-frequency response at any listening level in each zone.
- Parametric EQ and Crossover Filters — Full input and output parametric EQ, bandpass, and crossover filtering enable precise acoustic optimization per zone and loudspeaker system.
- Source Ducking and Priority Override — Background music levels reduce automatically when paging is activated, ensuring speech intelligibility across all output zones.
- Real-Time Clock Scheduling — Built-in clock enables time-of-day and day-of-week automation for unmanned commercial installations.
- RS-232 Control — Serial control supports third-party integration with AMX, Crestron, and custom control processors.
- Wall Panel Zone Controllers — Compatible with the full range of dbx ZC wall panels for occupant-level source selection and volume control.
- Analog Input Bus — Links multiple ZonePRO units for scalable multi-zone distribution without duplicating source cabling.
- dbx Type IV Conversion — Greater than 119 dB A-weighted dynamic range and 0.003% THD+N typical maintain signal transparency.
- Security Lockout — Prevents unauthorized front-panel changes in permanently installed commercial spaces.
- UL/IEC/EN Certified — Meets UL 600065, IEC 60065, and EN 55013 for commercial installation compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What is the difference between the DBX 641 and the DBX 640?
- The 641 and 640 share the same 6-input, 4-output open-architecture DSP platform with the same full feature set including AFS, AutoWarmth, parametric EQ, and RS-232 control. They differ in front-panel layout and specific I/O routing options suited to different installation contexts and control system configurations.
- Q: Does the DBX 641 support Crestron or AMX control?
- Yes. The 641 supports RS-232 control. DBX provides native Crestron and AMX control modules as free downloads from dbxpro.com, along with a ZonePro Protocol Guide for custom integration.
- Q: How many output zones does the DBX 641 support?
- The 641 provides 4 independent output zones. For larger installations, the analog input bus allows multiple ZonePRO units to share sources and expand zone count without duplicating source cabling from the equipment rack.
- Q: Can I use the DBX 641 for paging?
- Yes. Two switchable mic/line inputs include a full preamp with 30–60 dB of gain, 15V phantom power, Advanced Feedback Suppression, Auto Gain Control, compression, de-essing, and noise gating — providing complete paging mic processing for boardrooms and meeting spaces in a single rack unit.
- Q: What software is used to configure the DBX 641?
- ZonePRO Designer (free download from dbxpro.com) configures all signal routing, DSP parameters, zone assignments, and scheduling via RS-232. A Wizard-driven workflow guides integrators through the full setup process.
