Product Overview

The Crestron MPC4-201-B is a 4-Series Media Presentation Controller in black, designed for AV room control in conference rooms, classrooms, and presentation spaces. It provides 6 assignable push buttons, dedicated volume and mute controls, a power button, and a proximity sensor for wake-on-approach functionality. The compact square footprint accommodates multiple mounting configurations, including single-gang European box, two-gang US box (with adapter), lectern, and tabletop installations. This product is discontinued but remains available for purchase.

Product Description

The MPC4-201-B sits on the 4-Series platform, which supports Crestron control programming via SIMPL, SIMPL#, and Crestron Studio. Its six assignable projected capacitive push buttons accept icon chips to identify AV source, display, or system functions. Each button uses white LEDs when inactive and blue LEDs when active, providing clear visual feedback in any lighting condition. The volume section includes a blue LED bargraph display for visual level indication alongside the dedicated -/+ and mute buttons.

A 940 nm laser proximity sensor with an adjustable detection range of 8–35 inches (20–90 cm) wakes the controller when a user approaches, eliminating the need to press a button to activate the panel. An ambient light sensor enables automatic LED brightness adjustment. Audible key click feedback is configurable at three volume levels or disabled entirely.

Power is supplied over PoE (IEEE 802.3at Type 1 / 802.3af compatible, Class 0, 12.95W max; 3W typical), with a 1000 Mbps Ethernet connection for communications. The controller includes 2 GB SDRAM and mounts in a 3.42 × 3.42 in. square footprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the proximity sensor work on the MPC4-201-B?
The controller uses a 940 nm laser proximity sensor with an adjustable detection range of 8 to 35 inches (20 to 90 cm). When a user approaches within that range, the controller wakes from its idle state, lighting the button LEDs and making the panel ready for input without requiring a button press.
Can the MPC4-201-B mount in a standard US single-gang wall box?
No. The controller fits a 1-gang European (DIN 49073) box directly, or a 2-gang US box using an optional adapter plate. It also supports lectern and tabletop mounting.
What AV control functions can be assigned to the six push buttons?
The six assignable buttons can be programmed to control any function supported by the connected 4-Series control processor — including AV source selection, display power, video routing, lighting scenes, or system presets. Icon chips are used to label each button for the end user.
Does the MPC4-201-B require a Crestron control processor?
Yes. The MPC4-201-B is an input device and does not contain its own AV control logic. It requires connection to a compatible Crestron 4-Series control processor running a control program.
Is the MPC4-201-B still manufactured?
No. The MPC4-201-B is a discontinued product. It remains available for purchase from existing inventory. Integrators planning new installations should evaluate current 4-Series keypad options for long-term availability.
