Crestron DM-NVX-DIR2 – DM NVX Director Network AV Switching Appliance
Product Overview
The Crestron DM-NVX-DIR2 is the current-generation DM NVX Director network AV switching appliance — the routing intelligence engine for DM NVX AV-over-IP systems, managing stream assignment between DM NVX encoders and decoders across the IP network to create a software-defined virtual matrix switcher of virtually unlimited scale. It replaces the previous DM-NVX-DIR-80 and DM-NVX-DIR-ENT models for new installations, providing updated hardware and software for modern DM NVX enterprise AV-over-IP deployments.
Product Description
Without DM NVX Director, each DM NVX encoder must be manually routed to decoders using fixed unicast addressing — an approach that works for small point-to-point systems but cannot support the routing flexibility, multicast management, and enterprise-scale switching that large AV-over-IP systems require. The DM-NVX-DIR2 solves this by acting as the virtual matrix switcher control layer: it manages IGMP multicast groups, maps encoder streams to multicast addresses, assigns decoders to receive specific streams on demand, and responds to routing commands from Crestron 4-Series control processors to switch video in real time. A single DM-NVX-DIR2 appliance manages the entire DM NVX endpoint pool across the network, replacing the fixed crosspoint architecture of a traditional matrix switcher with software-defined routing that scales from tens to hundreds of endpoints without hardware changes. It is the correct Director specification for new DM NVX installations, replacing the DM-NVX-DIR-80 (80 endpoints) and DM-NVX-DIR-ENT (1,000 endpoints) for current deployments.
Key Features
- Current-Generation DM NVX Director: Updated hardware and software platform replacing DM-NVX-DIR-80 and DM-NVX-DIR-ENT for new DM NVX installations.
- Virtual Matrix Switching: Routes any DM NVX encoder stream to any decoder on the network in response to control system commands — software-defined matrix switching of virtually unlimited scale.
- IGMP Multicast Management: Manages multicast group membership for efficient network bandwidth use, ensuring only subscribed decoders receive each encoder’s stream.
- Crestron 4-Series Integration: Routes video in response to SIMPL# commands from CP4, MC4, or VC-4 processors for room AV control integration.
- XiO Cloud Managed: DM NVX Director and connected endpoints managed via XiO Cloud for enterprise fleet monitoring and management.
Typical Applications
- New DM NVX enterprise AV-over-IP system installations requiring a Director appliance to manage routing between encoders and decoders
- Campus and multi-building AV distribution systems where software-defined video routing must span multiple rooms and buildings on a unified IP network
- Corporate headquarters AV systems replacing traditional matrix switchers with scalable IP-based routing
- Government and university AV-over-IP systems managed by DM NVX Director for centralized enterprise AV administration

Frequently Asked Questions
Is DM-NVX-DIR2 required for all DM NVX systems?
Director is required for multi-endpoint routing flexibility. Small fixed point-to-point systems can operate without Director, but any system requiring routing to multiple decoders or switching sources needs Director. Contact Creation Networks for Director specification guidance.
What is the difference between DM-NVX-DIR2, DM-NVX-DIR-80, and DM-NVX-DIR-ENT?
DM-NVX-DIR2 is the current-generation model replacing the older DIR-80 and DIR-ENT for new installations. Specify DM-NVX-DIR2 for all new NVX projects. Contact Creation Networks for migration guidance from older Director models.
What is the warranty?
Crestron provides a standard 3-year limited warranty. Contact Creation Networks.
