Product Overview

The Crestron DM-CBL-ULTRA-P-B-SP1000 is a 1,000-foot spool of CAT7a shielded twisted pair (S/FTP) bulk cable in black, rated Type CMP for installation in environmental air-handling (plenum) spaces. Engineered for lossless 4K and Ultra HD AV signal distribution at distances up to 330 ft (100 m) over DigitalMedia 8G+ and HDBaseT systems, this cable is individually tested and certified per spool to exceed HDMI specifications requiring fewer than one pixel error per billion. The black jacket makes it ideal for installations where cable visibility or color-coding conventions require differentiation from the standard blue DM-CBL-ULTRA-P.

Product Description

DigitalMedia Ultra Cable is Crestron's guaranteed wiring solution for DM 8G+ AV distribution systems. The DM-CBL-ULTRA-P-B-SP1000 is the black, plenum-rated variant, delivered on a 1,000-foot spool for large-scale commercial AV installations. The S/FTP construction features four individually shielded twisted pairs (foil-shielded) plus an overall tinned copper braid shield, providing superior immunity to electromagnetic interference in high-density AV equipment rooms, data centers, and commercial plenum spaces.

The cable uses 22 AWG solid bare copper conductors with foam FEP insulation, delivering a characteristic impedance of 100 ohms and a velocity of propagation of 74% nominal — specifications consistent with Category 7a performance. Each conductor pair is color-coded (blue/white, orange/white, green/white, brown/white) for field identification during termination. The outer jacket is low-smoke PVC at 0.304 inches (7.7 mm) nominal OD, with measurement markings printed on the jacket for accurate length verification without a tape measure.

DM Ultra Cable is qualified for use with 10-Gigabit Ethernet networks, making it a future-compatible infrastructure choice for AV-over-IP deployments using DM NVX or similar systems alongside HDBaseT AV distribution. It terminates using Crestron DM-CONN shielded RJ45 connectors (sold separately), which require no crimping tool for fast, reliable field termination. Type CMP rating means this cable meets the National Electrical Code Article 800 requirements for plenum air-handling spaces without conduit.

Key Features

  • Black Plenum Jacket (Type CMP) — Approved for installation in environmental air-handling spaces per NEC Article 800; black jacket for color-coded or low-visibility installations.
  • CAT7a S/FTP Construction — Four individually foil-shielded twisted pairs plus overall braid shield for maximum EMI rejection.
  • 4K and Ultra HD Certified — Exceeds HDMI specifications at less than one pixel error per billion at distances up to 330 ft (100 m).
  • 22 AWG Solid Bare Copper — Solid conductors ensure consistent signal integrity and low DC resistance over long pull distances.
  • 1,000-Foot Spool — Full spool quantity for efficient large-venue or multi-room commercial AV infrastructure installation.
  • Individually Tested and Certified — Every spool is tested at the factory; includes test certification for verified performance.
  • Measurement Markings on Jacket — Length markings printed on the outer jacket allow accurate cut measurement without additional tools.
  • 10-Gigabit Ethernet Qualified — Suitable for structured data cabling applications requiring CAT5e, CAT6, or CAT7 performance.
  • No-Crimp Termination — Terminates with Crestron DM-CONN connectors (sold separately) without a crimping tool for fast field terminations.

Typical Applications

  • Commercial AV distribution in buildings with plenum air-handling spaces requiring CMP-rated cabling
  • DigitalMedia 8G+ AV infrastructure in boardrooms, conference rooms, and multi-room commercial spaces
  • HDBaseT AV distribution in auditoriums, training rooms, and all-hands rooms
  • AV-over-IP network cabling infrastructure for DM NVX systems
  • Installations where black cable is required for color-coding, conduit conventions, or aesthetic reasons

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between DM-CBL-ULTRA-P-B-SP1000 and DM-CBL-ULTRA-P-SP1000?
Both cables have identical electrical specifications and construction. The B variant has a black outer jacket; the standard variant has a blue outer jacket. Choose based on installation color-coding requirements or aesthetics.
Is this cable required for DM NVX AV-over-IP systems?
DM NVX systems run over standard CAT5e or better Ethernet. DM Ultra Cable is required for DigitalMedia 8G+ (HDBaseT) systems achieving distances up to 330 ft. For DM NVX over Cat cabling, any quality CAT5e or CAT6 meets minimum requirements, but CAT7a provides performance headroom and 10GbE compatibility.
What connector is used to terminate this cable?
Crestron DM-CONN shielded RJ45-type connectors are recommended. These connectors are sold separately and require no crimping tool for field termination.
Is this cable suitable for conduit installation?
Yes. The plenum (CMP) rating permits installation in air-handling spaces. The cable’s maximum pull tension of 25 lbf (111 N) and minimum bend radius of 2.44 in. (62 mm) should be observed during conduit pulls.
Can this cable be used for 10-Gigabit Ethernet data networks?
Yes. DM Ultra Cable is qualified for use with 10-Gigabit Ethernet and meets the performance requirements of CAT5e, CAT6, and CAT7 applications.
What warranty applies?
Cable products are covered under Crestron’s standard limited warranty. Full details at crestron.com/warranty.
