Product Overview
The Crestron CP4-R is a 4-Series control processor running Crestron Home OS, designed for high-performance residential automation installations. It serves as the central intelligence hub for whole-home control of lighting, shading, climate, AV distribution, security, and other building systems. The CP4-R is a rack-mountable 1U processor with extensive I/O, making it well-suited for structured wiring enclosures and equipment rack installations in custom homes.
Product Description
The CP4-R connects to the home network via Gigabit Ethernet and supports a wide range of control protocols including Cresnet, infiNET EX wireless, RS-232/422/485, IR, relay outputs, and Versiport I/O. It provides 24 W of Cresnet power output for driving wired keypads and sensors. BACnet/IP support extends compatibility to building automation systems. The processor runs on Crestron Home OS, enabling dealer-programmed whole-home automation with a consistent, intuitive user experience across mobile apps, touch screens, and remotes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between the CP4-R and the MC4-R?
A: The CP4-R is a larger 1U rack-mount processor with 8 relays, 8 Versiports, 8 IR-serial outputs, and RS-232/422/485 — suited for large whole-home installations with extensive wired I/O. The MC4-R is a smaller PoE-powered unit with fewer I/O ports, appropriate for medium-sized Crestron Home systems.
Q: Does the CP4-R support Crestron SIMPL programming?
A: The CP4-R runs Crestron Home OS and is programmed via Crestron Home dealer tools. For open SIMPL or 4-Series commercial programming, the CP4 (without the R suffix) is the appropriate processor.
Q: How many Cresnet devices can the CP4-R support?
A: The CP4-R operates in Cresnet server mode with 24 W available at 1A @ 24 VDC. The maximum number of Cresnet devices depends on each device's power draw and addressing capacity, typically up to 250 Cresnet addresses per network.
