Product Overview

The Crestron CEN-IO-IR-204 is a compact, cost-effective wireless I/O extender that adds four IR/1-way serial ports to any Crestron control system via Wi-Fi. Using the Crestron IFE micro form factor, it can be surface-mounted, DIN rail-mounted, or left freestanding, making it straightforward to deploy IR control at remote equipment locations without running additional control wiring.

Product Description

The CEN-IO-IR-204 communicates with the local network over IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi at 2.4 or 5 GHz with a typical omnidirectional range of 50 ft (15 m). Up to five wireless access points can be stored for seamless roaming across larger networks. Each of the four onboard IR/1-way serial ports supports infrared output up to 1.2 MHz or TTL/RS-232 serial at up to 115.2k baud, enabling direct integration with virtually any third-party AV or automation device. Setup is performed via Crestron Toolbox software or a web browser. The device supports TLS 1.2 and Local Authentication security protocols. Power is supplied by the included 5 VDC power pack (100–240 VAC input). The IFE micro enclosure is stackable with other CEN-IO devices and includes a surface/DIN rail mounting bracket.

Key Features

  • Four IR/1-way serial ports: IR up to 1.2 MHz, TTL/RS-232 up to 115.2k baud
  • IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi (2.4 or 5 GHz), up to 50 ft (15 m) range
  • Stores up to five Wi-Fi access points for multi-AP environments
  • TLS 1.2 and Local Authentication security support
  • Configurable via Crestron Toolbox or web browser
  • Included 5 VDC power pack (100–240 VAC)
  • IFE micro form factor: stackable, surface or 35 mm DIN rail mountable
  • Optional rack mount (RMK-IFE-1U) and pole mount (PLMK-IFE-101) kits available

Typical Applications

  • Adding IR control ports to remote AV equipment racks without control cable runs
  • Expanding existing Crestron systems with additional IR device control
  • Conference room display and source device IR control in distributed installations
  • Hospitality room AV IR integration over existing Wi-Fi infrastructure
  • Retrofitting IR control into spaces where new cable routing is impractical

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can the CEN-IO-IR-204 be used with a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi?
A: No. The CEN-IO-IR-204 communicates exclusively over Wi-Fi. For wired Ethernet connectivity, Crestron offers the CEN-IO-IR-104 with a physical Ethernet port.

Q: Does this device require a Crestron control system to function?
A: The CEN-IO-IR-204 requires an Ethernet-enabled Crestron control system on the same network. It does not operate as a standalone IR blaster without a connected control system.

Q: How many CEN-IO-IR-204 units can be stacked together?
A: Multiple IFE micro form factor devices can be stacked physically, though each unit operates independently. There is no electrical limit on the number of units deployable per system.
