Product Overview

The BSS BLUDIGITAL-OUT is a 4-channel digital output card that installs into any of the four expansion card slots on Soundweb London BLU-series chassis, enabling AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital audio outputs from Soundweb London DSP processors to external digital devices. In addition to digital audio output, the card includes a wordclock (word sync) input, allowing the Soundweb London system to be clocked from an external master clock source when required. Compatible with the full range of BLU-series Soundweb London chassis including the BLU-800, BLU-805, BLU-806, BLU-320, BLU-325, BLU-326, BLU-160, BLU-120, BLU-80, BLU-32, and BLU-16, the BLUDIGITAL-OUT is the standard solution for driving AES/EBU or S/PDIF destinations from a Soundweb London installed audio system.

Product Description

BSS BLUDIGITAL-OUT 4-Channel Digital Output Card for Soundweb London

The BSS BLUDIGITAL-OUT card expands the digital output capabilities of Soundweb London BLU-series processors, adding four channels of AES/EBU and S/PDIF output through two Combicon connectors. Each connector handles two stereo audio channels (channels 1&2 and 3&4), with Connector 1 dedicated to AES/EBU or S/PDIF audio output and Connector 2 providing a wordclock (word sync) input with two clock input modes: high impedance and 75-ohm terminated. The active clock mode is selected within HiQnet London Architect, allowing the Soundweb London system to be synchronized to an external word sync source such as a broadcast clock generator, digital console, or other master clock device. The card supports three output configurations: two stereo AES/EBU signals, two stereo S/PDIF signals, or one stereo AES/EBU and one stereo S/PDIF signal, providing flexibility to drive a range of downstream digital devices simultaneously. AES/EBU outputs use balanced wiring (positive, negative, shield), while S/PDIF outputs are unbalanced (signal, signal ground, shield). The wordclock input supports positive, negative (or ground), and shield connections. In practical installations, the BLUDIGITAL-OUT is used to feed processed audio from Soundweb London into digital recording systems, digital mixing consoles, broadcast equipment, power amplifiers with AES/EBU inputs, or any other AES/EBU or S/PDIF destination. Multiple cards can be installed across different slots on the same chassis to increase total digital output count. All routing and processing is managed through HiQnet London Architect, which provides full access to the Soundweb London DSP resources for the routed signals.

Key Features

  • 4 Digital Output Channels — Provides four channels of digital audio output per card from the Soundweb London DSP chassis.
  • AES/EBU and S/PDIF Output — Supports both AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital output formats, configurable per connector pair.
  • Word Sync Input — Connector 2 provides a wordclock input with high-impedance and 75-ohm termination modes, selectable in HiQnet London Architect.
  • Flexible Output Configuration — Configurable as two stereo AES/EBU, two stereo S/PDIF, or one of each to match downstream device requirements.
  • Two Combicon Connectors — Connector 1 handles audio output channels; Connector 2 handles wordclock input.
  • Broad Chassis Compatibility — Works in all major Soundweb London BLU-series chassis: BLU-800, BLU-805, BLU-806, BLU-320, BLU-325, BLU-326, BLU-160, BLU-120, BLU-80, BLU-32, and BLU-16.
  • HiQnet London Architect Integration — All outputs and clock settings are configured within the Soundweb London design environment.
  • Expandable — Multiple cards can be installed across available chassis slots to increase digital output capacity.

Typical Applications

  • Broadcast studio feeding AES/EBU outputs from Soundweb London into professional digital recording or transmission equipment
  • Auditorium or house of worship sending Soundweb London DSP outputs to power amplifiers with AES/EBU inputs
  • Conference room or boardroom distributing processed Soundweb London audio to digital endpoint devices via AES/EBU or S/PDIF
  • Multi-purpose room with Soundweb London sending digital outputs to a digital mixing console for monitor or recording feeds
  • Installed sound system requiring external wordclock synchronization of a Soundweb London chassis to a broadcast or studio master clock

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which Soundweb London chassis support the BLUDIGITAL-OUT card?

A: The BLUDIGITAL-OUT is compatible with all major Soundweb London BLU-series chassis: BLU-800, BLU-805, BLU-806, BLU-320, BLU-325, BLU-326, BLU-160, BLU-120, BLU-80, BLU-32, and BLU-16.

Q: What is the wordclock input used for?

A: The wordclock input on Connector 2 allows the Soundweb London chassis to be synchronized to an external master clock source. This is useful in broadcast or recording environments where a central word sync generator is used to lock multiple digital audio devices. The clock mode (high impedance or 75-ohm terminated) is selected in HiQnet London Architect.

Q: Can the BLUDIGITAL-OUT output both AES/EBU and S/PDIF simultaneously?

A: Yes. The card supports a mixed configuration: one stereo pair as AES/EBU and one stereo pair as S/PDIF on the same card. All-AES/EBU and all-S/PDIF configurations are also supported.

Q: How many channels of digital output does one BLUDIGITAL-OUT card provide?

A: Each card provides 4 channels (2 stereo pairs) of digital audio output. Multiple cards can be installed in different expansion slots on the same chassis to increase total output count.

Q: Is the BLUDIGITAL-OUT the complement to the BLUDIGITAL-IN?

A: Yes. The BLUDIGITAL-IN handles AES/EBU and S/PDIF inputs, while the BLUDIGITAL-OUT handles AES/EBU and S/PDIF outputs and adds wordclock input capability. Both cards use the same Combicon connector format and occupy one expansion slot per card.

Q: Where can I purchase the BSS BLUDIGITAL-OUT?

A: The BLUDIGITAL-OUT (SKU: BSSBLUDIGITALOUT-M) is available at creationnetworks.net. Documentation including the Digital Output Card Cut Sheet is available from BSS Audio.
