Product Overview
CS-PWR-INJ-30W is Cisco's 30 W IEEE 802.3at PoE+ power injector. It supplies PoE+ to a device on a network segment where the switch port cannot, which is the common case when a Cisco Room Vision PTZ camera is added to an existing room served by a non-PoE or PoE-only (802.3af) switch. It is the part that keeps a single-cable camera deployment intact without a switch replacement.
Product Description
The Room Vision PTZ is specified partly because it needs one cable: PoE+ carries power, 4K video and camera control on a single Cat5e run. That argument falls apart the moment the room's existing switch turns out to be non-PoE, or 802.3af only, which is what an estimator often finds on a retrofit into a building where the network was last touched years ago. The two ways out are a new switch or an injector, and on a one-camera room the injector is usually the cheaper and less disruptive of the two, because it touches nothing else on the network.

The power budget is not tight. The Room Vision PTZ draws 12 W in normal operation and 3 W in standby, well inside the injector's 30 W output, so one injector serves one camera with headroom. An 802.3af port cannot substitute, because 802.3af supplies too little power for this camera. The injector sits at the switch end of the run, not at the camera, so the run out to the camera position is still one cable and the rough-in does not change. Plan rack or closet space and a mains outlet for it at the head end, and specify plenum-rated Cat5e wherever the run crosses a plenum ceiling. One injector part number covers both camera finishes, Carbon Black and Arctic White, and it is quoted alongside the camera and its bracket from the Cisco room device catalog.
Key Features
- IEEE 802.3at PoE+ (Type 2) — Supplies the PoE+ standard the Room Vision PTZ camera requires.
- 30 W Output — Comfortably covers the camera's 12 W normal draw and 3 W standby.
- Avoids a Switch Replacement — Adds PoE+ to one port without touching the rest of the network.
- Head-End Placement — Sits at the switch end, so the camera still needs only one Cat5e run.
- Spare Part Available — Also orderable as CS-PWR-INJ-30W= for service stock.
