Product Overview

CS-BRDP55-G3-K9 is the third-generation Cisco Board Pro 55, and the differences from the G2 are worth knowing before a room is specified rather than after.

Cisco documents an ADS (Advanced Super Dimension Switch) LCD panel with a 1:1200 contrast ratio, audio over IP for up to eight Cisco IP conferencing microphones with AES67 support, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 type A port, and Zoom for Cisco Rooms in the supported platform list.

It is the current generation for new small and medium conference and training rooms, with the internal microphone array optimised for up to 4 metres (13 ft) from the device.

Registration and management have moved forward as well: Cisco Unified Communications Manager 15 SU5 or later on-premises, and certificate handling that includes SUDI, MIC and LSC.

Product Description

The most consequential G3 change for an integrator is audio. Where the G1 supported up to three Cisco Table Microphone Pro units over the audio-over-IP Ethernet port, the G3 supports up to eight Cisco IP conferencing microphones and adds AES67, which requires the L-BARPRO-AV Board Pro AV Integrator License. That brings the board into rooms with an existing networked-audio infrastructure rather than forcing a parallel system.

Not every change is an increase. Cisco specifies one HDMI 2.0 type A output at 4Kp60 on the G3 where the G2 has two, and the G3 HDMI input runs at 4Kp30 against 4Kp60 on the G2. If the design depends on a second HDMI feed or a 4Kp60 wired input, that belongs in the room decision.

Display specifications also differ. The G3 uses an ADS LCD at a 1:1200 contrast ratio with a +/- 88 degree viewing angle, against IPS at 1:1000 and +/- 89 degrees on the G2, both at 350 cd/m2 and 4K UHD.

Power behaviour is documented more fully on this generation: 12 W typical networked standby, 1 W typical deep sleep, and a USB passthrough power output that steps from 20 V at 3 A (60 W) down to 5 V at 3 A (15 W). Board-only weight is 40.5 kg.

Platform support on the G3 is listed as Webex, Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom for Cisco Rooms, H.323, SIP, WebRTC and BYOD using USB-C passthrough, with a minimum software level of RoomOS June or RoomOS 26.7.2 or later, and a one-year limited liability warranty.

Rooms being designed around this generation can draw the rest of the build from microphones, device and room control and medium room solutions.

Key Features

  • AES67 audio over IP — Up to eight Cisco IP conferencing microphones connect over the audio-over-IP Ethernet port, with AES67 support under the L-BARPRO-AV AV Integrator License.
  • ADS LCD panel at 1:1200 contrast — The G3 display is an ADS (IPS-level) panel with a 1:1200 contrast ratio and a +/- 88 degree viewing angle.
  • Zoom for Cisco Rooms listed — Cisco's G3 platform list covers Webex, Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom for Cisco Rooms, H.323, SIP, WebRTC and BYOD over USB-C passthrough.
  • Certificate management for managed networks — SUDI, Manufacturer Installed Certificate, Locally Significant Certificates and X.509 certificates with 2048, 3072 or 4096-bit keys are documented on this generation.
  • Deep sleep power state — Cisco publishes 1 W typical deep sleep and 12 W typical networked standby for the G3.
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 type A port — The G3 upgrades the type A port from USB 2.0, with 1.5 A charging capability retained.
  • One-year limited liability warranty — Cisco publishes a one-year limited liability warranty for the G3, where the G1 and G2 carry 90 days.

Typical Applications

  • Conference room — Cisco positions the Board Pro for small and medium conference rooms, matching the 4-metre microphone coverage.
  • Training room — The Board Pro datasheet names training rooms as an intended environment for the platform.
  • Commercial meeting space — Organisations standardising new rooms on the current generation get the longest documented support runway.
  • Multi-purpose room — AES67 and up to eight IP microphones let one board serve a room whose layout changes.
