Product Overview
Security policy, not preference, is what sends a buyer to CS-BOARD55S-NR-K9. This is the non-wireless configuration of the Cisco Webex Board 55S, with the 802.11a/b/g/n and 802.11ac radios omitted from the hardware rather than disabled in software — the distinction that matters when a facility accreditation, a SCIF standard or a hospital RF policy has to be satisfied on paper. Everything else is a standard 55S: a 55-inch 4K multi-touch panel with a 4Kp60 camera, a 12-element microphone array with intelligent voice tracking and integrated speaker, sized for spaces accommodating up to five people. Cisco placed the 55S end-of-sale on May 10, 2022, with a last date of support of May 31, 2027 and the Board Pro 55 no-radio variants (CS-BRD55P-NR-K9 and CS-BRD55P-NR-K7) as the documented migration path.
Product Description
Design the room around the wire. The board takes one Ethernet (RJ-45) 100/1000 Mbps drop for both provisioning and calls, and Cisco documents 802.1X authentication and 802.1Q VLAN tagging on it, so it drops into a port-authenticated meeting-room VLAN the way a managed endpoint should. HTTP proxy support and TLS proxy inspection are also documented, which matters where outbound traffic has to pass an inspecting proxy. Content sharing has to be planned as a wired path: one HDMI input accepting up to 3840 x 2160, with USB-C available for touch redirect back to a connected laptop.
Registration options are unchanged by the missing radio. The board runs Cisco Webex Room OS against the Webex cloud, or registers on premises to Cisco Unified Communications Manager or Cisco Expressway from CE9.8 or later, or to third-party SIP and H.323 infrastructure — which is usually the deciding factor for a secure site that does not permit cloud registration at all.
Physically it is a 39.8 kg [87.7 lb] panel measuring 814 x 1283 x 50 mm, drawing 170 W in use and 33 W standby from an autosensing 100-240 VAC supply at a maximum of 4.6 A; it is not PoE-powered. Mounting uses the same CS-BOARD55-FS=, CS-BOARD55-WS= and CS-BOARD55-WMK= assemblies as the first-generation Board 55. Creation Networks lists it under interactive displays with related endpoints in video conference systems and mounting hardware in display mounts.
Key Features
- Radios omitted in hardware — The NR configuration ships without the 802.11a/b/g/n and 802.11ac radios, which is what an RF-restricted site accreditation normally requires rather than a software disable.
- Wired enterprise network support — Cisco documents 802.1X authentication, 802.1Q VLAN, HTTP proxy support and TLS proxy inspection, so the board fits a port-authenticated and proxied network.
- On-premises registration available — Registration to Cisco Unified Communications Manager or Cisco Expressway from CE9.8 onward suits sites that cannot register endpoints to a cloud service.
- Full board capability retained — The 55-inch 4K panel, 4Kp60 camera and 12-element microphone array are unchanged, so removing the radio costs nothing in meeting quality.
- Wired content path — A single HDMI input accepts up to 3840 x 2160 and USB-C carries touch redirect, covering presentation without any wireless dependency.
- Camera geometry published — An 83-degree horizontal field of view and -25 degree mounting tilt let mounting height be set correctly for participants seated close to the panel.
- Support window to May 2027 — Cisco's last date of support of May 31, 2027 gives a defined horizon before migration to the Board Pro 55 no-radio variants.
Typical Applications
- Government space — a hardware configuration that satisfies a site policy prohibiting wireless radios.
- Huddle room — Cisco sizes the 55S for small spaces accommodating up to five people, on secured floors included.
- Conference room — a compact secure meeting room needing whiteboarding and calling from one device.
- Commercial meeting space — tenant areas where the occupier restricts additional RF emitters.
