What is the Christie Spyder-S SFP 8Ch Compositor (12G-SDI / HDMI 2.0)?

The Christie Spyder-S SFP 8Ch Compositor (12G-SDI / HDMI 2.0) is a 1RU video processing frame in the Christie Digital Spyder-S platform. It's new with Spyder-S release 6.1, using SFP cages so each port can carry 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0, or fiber for long runs. Frames link together over 100G networking, so one frame can run a small show or up to sixteen can run a single canvas of more than 200 million pixels without changing software or workflow.

What is included?

  • One Christie Spyder-S SFP 8Ch Compositor (12G-SDI / HDMI 2.0)

  • Spyder Studio control software

  • Redundant power supply

How does the Christie Spyder-S SFP 8Ch Compositor (12G-SDI / HDMI 2.0) work?

Each Spyder-S frame is a node with its own FPGA processing, so every node handles its sources locally with deterministic, near-zero latency and no single point of failure. Two QSFP28 system links carry 200G in and 200G out between nodes, letting inputs, outputs, and canvas size grow as you add frames. Spyder Studio runs the whole system, and its automation commands are backward compatible with Spyder X80.

In canvas mode, outputs combine into one large pixel space with layers, mix effects, and background inputs; release 6.1 renders backgrounds without using layers and mixes sources on a single layer. In tile mode, any output can act as a full aux, quad split, or 4x4 multiviewer with on-screen labels. One output per node can serve as an operator monitor showing twenty sources and the live canvas. Pair it with the HDMI 2.0 4x4 Compositor, DisplayPort 1.4 4x4 Compositor, 12G-SDI 8Ch Compositor, HDMI 2.1 2x2 Compositor to build the exact I/O mix you need.

What are the key features of the Christie Spyder-S SFP 8Ch Compositor (12G-SDI / HDMI 2.0)?

  • 4 inputs / 4 outputs via SFP cages, single-link 1.5/3/6/12G-SDI or HDMI 2.0 in a 1RU frame.

  • Scales to 16 frames and 200+ million pixels on one canvas.

  • Canvas and tile modes, including 4x4 multiviewer outputs.

  • Backgrounds and mix effects that don't consume layers (release 6.1).

  • FPGA processing with ultra-low, deterministic latency.

  • Spyder Studio control, compatible with Spyder X80 automation.

  • Redundant power and no single point of failure.
