What is the Christie Spyder-S 12G-SDI 8Ch Compositor?
The Christie Spyder-S 12G-SDI 8Ch Compositor is a 1RU video processing frame in the Christie Digital Spyder-S platform. It's built for broadcast and live production, with eight channels of single-link 12G-SDI that carry 4K60 on one cable. Frames link together over 100G networking, so one frame can run a small show or up to sixteen can run a single canvas of more than 200 million pixels without changing software or workflow.
What is included?
One Christie Spyder-S 12G-SDI 8Ch Compositor
Spyder Studio control software
Redundant power supply

How does the Christie Spyder-S 12G-SDI 8Ch Compositor work?
Each Spyder-S frame is a node with its own FPGA processing, so every node handles its sources locally with deterministic, near-zero latency and no single point of failure. Two QSFP28 system links carry 200G in and 200G out between nodes, letting inputs, outputs, and canvas size grow as you add frames. Spyder Studio runs the whole system, and its automation commands are backward compatible with Spyder X80.
In canvas mode, outputs combine into one large pixel space with layers, mix effects, and background inputs; release 6.1 renders backgrounds without using layers and mixes sources on a single layer. In tile mode, any output can act as a full aux, quad split, or 4x4 multiviewer with on-screen labels. One output per node can serve as an operator monitor showing twenty sources and the live canvas. Pair it with the HDMI 2.0 4x4 Compositor, DisplayPort 1.4 4x4 Compositor, SFP 8Ch Compositor (12G-SDI / HDMI 2.0), HDMI 2.1 2x2 Compositor to build the exact I/O mix you need.

What are the key features of the Christie Spyder-S 12G-SDI 8Ch Compositor?

Frequently Asked Questions
How many Spyder-S frames can I link?
Up to sixteen frames link into one system, supporting a canvas of more than 200 million pixels.
Can I mix frame types?
Yes. HDMI 2.0, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, 12G-SDI, and SFP compositors combine in one system, so you buy only the I/O you need.
Do my Spyder X80 shows carry over?
Spyder-S runs on Spyder Studio, and its automation commands are backward compatible with Spyder X80, with a few new commands for new features.
What's new in release 6.1?
New DisplayPort 1.4 and SFP compositors, an enhanced Configuration Manager, more control options, source monitoring for backgrounds and MEs, and backgrounds that render without consuming layers.
Is it TAA-compliant?
No. Spyder-S is not listed as TAA-compliant. Contact us for options on federal projects.
