Product Overview

The BSS BLU-BOB1 is an 8-channel analog audio output expander for the Soundweb London BLU link digital audio bus, housed in a compact half-rack chassis suited for desk mount, wall mount, or rack mount via the optional 1U Rack-Mount Kit. The BLU-BOB1 extracts any 8-channel block from the 256-channel BLU link bus and outputs the signals as balanced analog line level, making it the distributed-deployment choice for delivering audio to amplifiers, zone controllers, or analog destinations without running back to a central equipment rack. It is functionally identical to the full-rack BLU-BOB2 in a smaller, more placement-flexible form factor.

Product Description

BSS BLU-BOB1 Break-Out Box 8-Channel Output Expander

The BSS BLU-BOB1 “break-out box” connects to the Soundweb London BLU link digital audio bus and converts a selected 8-channel block into balanced analog line-level outputs for downstream devices. The BLU link bus carries 256 channels at low latency over standard Cat 5e cabling, with up to 100m between compatible devices per segment. For installations requiring longer runs, the BSS Audio MC-1 fiber optic media converter extends the BLU link network to over 10km via single-mode fiber — a key advantage in campus, house-of-worship, or large-venue deployments. Six rear-panel DIP switches set the channel range, selecting any consecutive 8-channel group from the full 256-channel bus. This self-contained configuration approach requires no software; the BLU-BOB1 is not controlled or configured by HiQnet Audio Architect. All 8 analog line-level outputs use the same terminal block connectors as the complete Soundweb London family, ensuring uniform installation practices across the system. Front panel LED indicators show signal present and power status. The half-rack chassis can be surface-mounted under a table, wall-mounted using the included brackets, or rack-mounted using the optional BSS Audio 1U Rack-Mount Kit that pairs two half-rack devices in a single rack space. Power is provided by the included 12V DC adapter with terminal block connection. The BLU-BOB1 and BLU-BOB2 share identical front panel and rear panel layouts; the form factor is the only difference between the two models.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the BLU-BOB1 and the BLU-BOB2?

A: Both models deliver 8 channels of analog line-level output from the BLU link bus and share identical rear and front panel layouts. The BLU-BOB1 uses a half-rack chassis for desk or wall mounting; the BLU-BOB2 is a full 19-inch 1RU rack-mount unit. Choose the BLU-BOB1 for distributed or surface-mount locations and the BLU-BOB2 for centralized equipment racks.

Q: Does the BLU-BOB1 need to be configured in HiQnet Audio Architect?

A: No. The BLU-BOB1 does not connect to HiQnet Audio Architect. All configuration is done via the six DIP switches on the rear panel, which select the 8-channel block to output from the BLU link bus.

Q: Can the BLU-BOB1 be rack mounted?

A: Yes. The optional BSS Audio 1U Rack-Mount Kit accommodates two half-rack devices (BLU-BOB1 and/or BLU-BIB) side-by-side in a single rack space. Mounting brackets for under-table or wall installation are included with the unit.

Q: How far can the BLU-BOB1 be located from the main Soundweb London processor?

A: Up to 100m using standard Cat 5e cabling. For extended runs, the BSS Audio MC-1 fiber optic media converter supports distances beyond 10km using single-mode fiber.

Q: How many BLU-BOB1 units can be used in a single system?

A: Multiple units can be connected to the same BLU link network. Each occupies an 8-channel block; the 256-channel bus supports up to 32 such blocks across all connected BLU link devices.

Q: Are the BLU-BOB1 and BLU-BOB2 interchangeable in a design?

A: Yes. They are functionally identical and their front and rear panels are the same. The choice is purely based on the required physical form factor and mounting method for each installation location.

Q: Where can I buy the BLU-BOB1 and get technical support?

A: The BLU-BOB1 is available from Creation Networks. Contact our team for system design assistance and pre-sales support.
