Product Overview

The Bose ControlSpace EX-12AEC is a 1U rack-mount conferencing signal processor that adds twelve acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) channels and 16×16 Dante connectivity to ControlSpace EX conferencing systems. It is designed for conference rooms, boardrooms, and divisible meeting spaces that require dedicated AEC processing beyond what the EX-1280C alone provides. The EX-12AEC integrates directly with ControlSpace Designer software and functions as an AEC expansion unit within larger commercial AV conferencing deployments. At $2,300 per unit, it addresses the per-room AEC processing needs of medium to large commercial meeting space installations without requiring proprietary microphone arrays.

Product Description

Bose ControlSpace EX-12AEC front panel Bose ControlSpace EX-12AEC rear panel Bose ControlSpace EX-12AEC installed

The EX-12AEC runs on a 32-bit fixed/floating-point DSP at 456 MHz paired with an ARM Cortex-A8 processor at 600 MHz, delivering up to 3.6 GIPS / 2.7 GFLOPS of processing headroom. Each of the twelve AEC channels features a 480 ms tail length and up to 32 dB of noise reduction, with non-linear processing and comfort noise generation to maintain natural-sounding audio during quiet passages. Four reference inputs allow multiple loudspeaker reference signals to be tracked simultaneously, which is essential in open-plan spaces or divisible conference rooms with complex acoustic echo paths.

The unit communicates via 16×16 Dante audio networking (primary and secondary ports) plus an AmpLink output connector, allowing direct integration with ControlSpace EX amplifiers and processors. An RJ-45 port handles both Dante audio and network control, eliminating the need for a separate control network in many installations. The front-panel OLED display (256×64 pixels) with rotary encoder allows on-site network parameter configuration and channel activity monitoring without a connected laptop.

The EX-12AEC is required when a ControlSpace EX-1280C installation needs AEC channel count beyond the processor’s onboard capacity — common in large conference rooms with eight or more microphone inputs, multi-mic boardroom setups, or distance learning environments. Configuration is handled entirely within ControlSpace Designer 5.5 or later. SKU 834316-1110 is the 120V US version. Available from Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • 12-Channel AEC Expansion — Adds twelve acoustic echo cancellation channels to ControlSpace EX-1280C-based conferencing systems.
  • 480 ms AEC Tail Length — Handles longer acoustic echo paths found in larger conference rooms and reverberant spaces.
  • 32 dB Noise Reduction — Per-channel noise reduction with non-linear processing and comfort noise for natural-sounding audio.
  • 4 AEC Reference Inputs — Tracks multiple loudspeaker references simultaneously for complex room configurations.
  • 16×16 Dante Networking — Primary and secondary Dante ports for redundant audio networking to EX-1280C processors and Dante-enabled microphones.
  • AmpLink Output — Direct connection to ControlSpace EX amplifiers without additional Dante licensing or routing overhead.
  • Onboard DSP — 32-bit DSP at 456 MHz / ARM Cortex-A8 at 600 MHz; 3.6 GIPS / 2.7 GFLOPS; 43 s delay capacity.
  • OLED Front Panel Display — 256×64 OLED with rotary encoder for on-site network configuration and channel monitoring.
  • 1U Rack-Mount — 44 mm × 483 mm × 282 mm; dual variable-speed side-venting fans; 35 W typical power draw.
  • ControlSpace Designer Compatible — Requires ControlSpace Designer 5.5 or later (Windows) for full system configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the EX-12AEC a standalone AEC processor or does it require an EX-1280C?
The EX-12AEC is an AEC expansion unit designed to work within a ControlSpace EX conferencing system. It connects to an EX-1280C processor via Dante networking. It does not function as a standalone conferencing processor.
How many EX-12AEC units can be added to a single EX-1280C system?
Multiple EX-12AEC units can be added to a ControlSpace EX system, subject to available Dante channel bandwidth and the EX-1280C’s processing capacity. Consult ControlSpace Designer system limits and the installation guide for specifics on your configuration.
Does the EX-12AEC work with non-Bose Dante microphones?
Yes. Any Dante-enabled microphone that appears on the Dante network can be routed to the EX-12AEC for AEC processing via Dante Controller and ControlSpace Designer.
Can the EX-12AEC be used in divisible conference rooms?
Yes. With four AEC reference inputs, the EX-12AEC can track separate loudspeaker reference signals for different room sections, making it well-suited to divisible conference rooms where room partitions change the acoustic echo path.
What control systems integrate with the EX-12AEC system?
The ControlSpace EX ecosystem supports Crestron, AMX, Extron, and other third-party control systems via ControlSpace Designer’s external control module. The EX-12AEC itself is configured through ControlSpace Designer and follows the same integration path as other EX components.
What is the latency introduced by the EX-12AEC?
The AEC processing latency is 50 ms per channel. This is inherent to the echo cancellation algorithm and is typical for hardware AEC processors in conferencing applications.
What warranty does this product carry?
The ControlSpace EX-12AEC carries a 5-year limited warranty from Bose Professional. For warranty registration and commercial support, visit Creation Networks.
