Product Overview
The Bogen UTI1 is a single-zone telephone interface paging controller designed for commercial 70V audio installations that require coordinated paging and background music from a single analog telephone line. Compatible with loop start, ground start, analog station, and page port connections, the UTI1 integrates directly with standard PBX and key systems without modification. It serves as the primary replacement for the end-of-sale Bogen TAMB2/PS unit, covering approximately 95% of existing TAMB2 installations. Wall-mount construction and DTMF programmability make it practical for a wide range of commercial deployments where rack space is limited.
Product Description
The UTI1 delivers full single-zone paging and background music coordination from a compact wall-mount enclosure. It accepts an analog telephone line and routes paging audio to two separate outputs: a combined Page+BGM output for zones that play background music between announcements, and a Page Only output for areas where music is not required. Both outputs include independent level controls, and the Page+BGM output uses variable BGM muting to automatically reduce or silence music when a page is in progress, then restore it when the page ends.
A built-in 24V DC, 1A power supply is included to drive compatible amplified speakers directly, reducing the need for external power infrastructure in smaller installations. The UTI1 supports a speaker T/R drive capacity of 150 speakers per output, making it appropriate for moderately sized commercial paging zones. Contact-triggered tones are selectable from tone burst (2 to 7 seconds), chime, and whoop options, with separate night ring tone or chime selection for after-hours operation. An emergency override input accepts loop start or page port signals, and programmable AUX relay contacts can be activated via DTMF tones through the override input for added control flexibility. The micro-controller-based design is fully DTMF programmable, including a programmable timeout for station access. The UTI1 carries FCC Part 68 registration and UL Standard 60950 listing for the United States and Canada.
Key Features
- Four Telephone Interface Types — Interfaces with loop start trunk, ground start trunk, analog station, and page port connections (with or without contact closure), covering virtually all standard commercial PBX and key systems.
- Separate Page+BGM and Page Only Outputs — Two independent outputs with level controls allow different zones to receive different audio configurations from a single controller.
- Variable BGM Muting — Background music automatically reduces or mutes during pages and restores afterward, coordinating announcements and music without manual intervention.
- Built-In 24V DC Power Supply — Onboard 1A power supply drives compatible amplified speakers, eliminating the need for a separate power brick in many installations.
- 150 Speaker T/R Drive Capacity Per Output — Supports up to 150 tip-and-ring speaker connections per output, suitable for mid-size commercial paging zones.
- DTMF Programmable — Micro-controller-operated design allows programming of AUX relay contacts, station timeout, and other parameters via standard DTMF tones through the override input.
- Selectable Alert Tones — Tone burst (2 to 7 seconds), chime, and whoop tone options provide flexibility for different facility notification requirements.
- Night Ring Mode — Separate night ring tone or chime selection supports after-hours call notification without full paging system activation.
- Emergency Override Input — Dedicated override input for loop start or page port signals ensures priority pages can preempt normal paging and background music.
- Page Level Limiter with Active Indicator — Built-in limiter prevents paging audio from clipping, with an active indicator for monitoring system status.
- Wall-Mount Design — Compact enclosure installs on a standard wall surface, preserving rack space for amplifiers and other AV equipment.
- TAMB2/PS Replacement — Direct functional replacement for the end-of-sale Bogen TAMB2/PS in approximately 95% of existing installations.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Bogen UTI1 a direct replacement for the TAMB2/PS?
- Yes, the UTI1 is the designated replacement for the end-of-sale Bogen TAMB2/PS and covers approximately 95% of existing TAMB2 installation configurations. Verify your specific wiring and interface type before swapping units.
- Which telephone line types does the UTI1 support?
- The UTI1 interfaces with loop start trunk, ground start trunk, analog station, and page port connections, both with and without contact closure. This covers the full range of analog port types found in standard commercial PBX and key systems.
- What is the difference between the Page+BGM and Page Only outputs?
- The Page+BGM output delivers both background music and paging audio to zones where ambient music is desired. The Page Only output carries paging audio exclusively, suited for areas such as restrooms, stairwells, or utility spaces where background music is not appropriate.
