The Blackmagic Design Ultimatte 12 4K is an advanced real-time compositing processor for keying live-action video with broadcast graphics, virtual sets, and augmented reality. New algorithms and color science deliver photorealistic composites with excellent edge handling, color separation, and spill suppression, and a high-performance 12G-SDI design handles HD and Ultra HD up to 2160p60 with sub-pixel processing.
Product Description
The Ultimatte 12 4K produces life-like composites that place talent into any scene — for broadcast news, sports, film and television, and entertainment programming. It works with fixed cameras and static backgrounds or automated virtual-set systems, and can layer computer-generated augmented-reality objects into a scene with realistic transparency that talent can walk behind. It's also well suited to on-set pre-visualization, letting actors and directors see virtual sets while shooting against green screen.
Because each camera sees a green screen slightly differently, sharing a switcher's keyer across cameras compromises the key. The Ultimatte 12 4K solves this by giving each camera a dedicated keyer tuned to its view. Advanced 12G-SDI connections carry high-frame-rate Ultra HD over a single BNC while remaining compatible with SD, HD, 3G, 6G, and 12G equipment, supporting all HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60. It includes dedicated compositing inputs with loop outputs, requires the free Ultimatte Software Control for Mac/Windows, and works with the Ultimatte Smart Remote 4 hardware panel. The processor fits in a single rack unit.

FAQ
How does the 4K model differ from the 8K, HD, and HD Mini? The 4K supports UHD 4K60 over single-link 12G-SDI; the 8K adds native 8K with many more inputs, while the HD and HD Mini top out at 1080p60.
Why use one Ultimatte per camera? Each camera sees the green screen differently — a dedicated keyer tuned per camera produces a cleaner key than a shared switcher keyer.
Does it need a control panel? It requires the free Ultimatte Software Control for Mac/Windows; the Ultimatte Smart Remote 4 is an optional hardware panel.
Can I start in HD and move to Ultra HD later? Yes — 12G-SDI is compatible with your existing HD equipment and scales to Ultra HD.
