Product Overview
The Blackmagic Design ATEM Camera Converter is an SDI/HDMI to fiber camera converter that extends SD and HD camera signals up to 28 miles (45 km) over a single-mode optical fiber link. It converts SDI or HDMI camera output to optical for the run back to the switcher, and converts the switcher program feed back to SDI/HDMI for on-camera monitoring. Built-in talkback and tally make it a practical optical fiber camera extender for live multi-camera productions where camera positions are far from the switcher.
Product Description
The ATEM Camera Converter solves long-distance camera signal extension by sending camera video over optical fiber instead of coax, allowing camera positions far from the production area. Connect a camera to the SDI or HDMI input to convert video to an optical signal; the optical fiber input can take the switcher program feed and convert it to SDI/HDMI outputs for monitoring, and those outputs can switch between return program and camera input. The integrated talkback function lets the switcher operator coordinate with the camera operator using PC or iPhone-compatible headsets, embedding microphone audio into channels 15 and 16 of the optical link. Two tally LEDs illuminate from the switcher's program output using an open-standard tally packet over the optical connection, and the camera number is selectable via USB software or the keypad. An internal battery supports remote use, with a 12V input that also accepts any power source or a car battery. The aircraft-grade aluminum body includes an integrated belt clip and a tripod mounting option, and balanced microphone inputs add audio capability — useful as a talkback and tally camera converter for concerts, sporting events, lecture theaters, and houses of worship.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far can it extend a camera signal?
Up to 28 miles (45 km) over a single-mode LC optical fiber link.
Does it support 4K?
No. It handles switchable SD and HD signals (270 Mb/s SD-SDI and 1.5 Gb/s HD-SDI), not 4K/UHD.
How does talkback work?
Microphone audio is embedded on channels 15 and 16 of the optical link, letting the switcher and camera operators communicate over PC or iPhone-compatible headsets.
Can it run without mains power?
Yes. It has an internal battery and a 12V input that also accepts a car battery for remote camera positions.
