The Blackmagic Design ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD is a 3G-SDI live production switcher in a 2RU chassis for large multi-camera HD events, with 40 3G-SDI inputs and 24 3G-SDI outputs across four M/E rows. It pairs a 156-channel Fairlight audio mixer with 16 ATEM Advanced keyers and a built-in front panel, making it a 40-input 3G-SDI switcher suited to broadcast and live-event production. Control is via the front panel, optional ATEM hardware panels, or the free ATEM Software Control.
Product Description
The 4 M/E Constellation HD is a rack-mount HD switcher with Fairlight audio that connects to a wide range of HD sources over multi-rate 3G-SDI (720p, 1080i, 1080p), with 24 3G-SDI program outputs plus a USB-C webcam output. Each input has a frame synchronizer, frame-rate converter, and format converter, so cameras without genlock and computer sources can be combined live with no rendering. Four DVE engines plus SuperSource (eight additional DVE layers) give a total of 12 DVEs for picture-in-picture and graphic-wipe effects, and 16 upstream ATEM Advanced chroma keyers — enough for a four-camera virtual set — plus four downstream keyers support news and virtual-set work. Four multiview outputs offer up to 16 routable windows each. As a multi-camera HD broadcast switcher, it adds professional talkback (5-pin XLR plus RJ12 for ClearCom/RTS, and SDI talkback to Blackmagic cameras), MADI in/out for external audio, a media pool with four media players, and program return with tally and camera control over SDI. The 156-channel Fairlight mixer provides 6-band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, expander, and noise gate on each input, controllable from ATEM Software Control or a hardware/Fairlight panel. Redundant IEC power inputs support continuous operation.
