Product Overview
The Biamp Impera Uniform 8U is an eight-button E Ink AV control pad with an Ethernet port, built for conference rooms, training rooms, and presentation spaces that need a clean, wall-mounted control interface. This PoE room control pad uses a 2.7-inch high-contrast E Ink display so button labels stay crisp and legible without a backlight glow. An on-board controller means the Impera Uniform 8U runs room control without a separate processor, keeping small and mid-size AV systems simple. It is a flexible conference room control panel for standardized, easy-to-reconfigure deployments.
Product Description
The Impera Uniform 8U gives integrators a self-contained control endpoint for commercial AV rooms. Up to eight software-configurable buttons drive common actions such as source selection, display power, and volume, while the E Ink display presents clear labels that update as the room programming changes. Because the controller is on board, there is no external processor to specify, rack, or power for typical single-room jobs, which shortens installation and lowers system cost. The pad is powered over the network via PoE (IEEE 802.3at Class 1, 4W), so a single Cat5e or Cat6 run handles both data and power to the wall plate.
For third-party device control, the Uniform 8U includes one bi-directional RS-232 port with feedback, two uni-directional RS-232 ports, and three GPIO ports, plus a USB mini connection for local configuration and maintenance. An expansion bus supports up to eight additional keypads and port expanders for larger rooms, and the pad supports email notifications for lamp and filter hours. As part of the Impera control system, it is configured in Biamp's Project Designer software and sits alongside other control endpoints in the Biamp collection. Rooms that need a button pad with a physical, tactile layout can pair it with the Impera Echo Plus 8EUB control pad.
Key Features
- E Ink Display — A 2.7-inch high-contrast E Ink display keeps button labels sharp and readable and updates as room programming changes.
- On-Board Controller — The pad runs room control without an external processor, simplifying single-room and small-system deployments.
- PoE Powered — Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3at Class 1, 4W) lets a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable deliver both data and power.
- Ethernet Control — An RJ-45 Ethernet connection handles network configuration and control of the pad.
- Third-Party Control Ports — One bi-directional RS-232 port with feedback, two uni-directional RS-232 ports, and three GPIO ports drive projectors, displays, and other devices.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Impera Uniform 8U need a separate control processor?
No. It includes an on-board controller, so it can run room control without an external processor in typical single-room systems.
How is it powered?
The pad is powered over Ethernet using PoE (IEEE 802.3at Class 1, 4W), so a single Cat5e or Cat6 run provides data and power.
What can it control?
Through one bi-directional RS-232 port, two uni-directional RS-232 ports, three GPIO ports, and Ethernet, it can control projectors, displays, and other room devices.
Can it scale to larger rooms?
Yes. The expansion bus supports up to eight additional keypads and port expanders for larger control layouts.
How is it configured?
The Uniform 8U is programmed in Biamp's Project Designer software, and a USB mini port is provided for local configuration and maintenance.
Why an E Ink display?
