Product Overview

The AVPro Edge MXNet 1G Evolution II Encoder is the entry-level encoding node for the MXNet Evolution II (EV2) AV-over-IP ecosystem, distributing HDMI signals across standard 1G Ethernet infrastructure. It encodes up to 4K UHD 60Hz video with multi-channel audio and transmits that stream to any MXNet EV2 decoder on the same network. With dual network interfaces — RJ45 and fiber — plus USB, IR, and RS-232 control ports, this encoder covers the connectivity requirements of most commercial rack deployments. This unit is exclusively compatible with MXNet Evolution II systems and will not operate on MXNet V1 networks.

Product Description

Designed as the foundation of a scalable AV-over-IP system, the MXNet 1G EV2 Encoder converts a local HDMI source into a low-latency IP stream suitable for distribution across a standard 1-gigabit managed network. The HDMI loop-out port allows a local monitor to remain connected to the source device without requiring a splitter, which simplifies rack wiring in classrooms, conference rooms, and control rooms. A single RJ45 port handles network traffic while an additional fiber interface provides flexibility for longer runs or electrically isolated connections between buildings or floors. USB extension, IR passback, and RS-232 control ports allow the encoder to serve as a full control relay point, keeping rack cabling consolidated.

Powered over Ethernet (PoE), the unit requires no separate power supply, reducing the number of power drops needed in the rack. The encoder is purpose-built for MXNet EV2 and leverages the V2 system's improved video quality, management interface, and feature set. Installers upgrading from V1 should note that this encoder is not backward compatible — a separate V1 encoder is required for any legacy MXNet V1 decoders remaining in service.

Key Features

  • 4K UHD 60Hz Encoding — Transmits full 4:4:4 color at 60Hz to preserve detail in medical, signage, and control room applications.
  • HDMI Loop-Out — Passes the source signal to a local display simultaneously, eliminating the need for a separate HDMI distribution amplifier at the source.
  • Dual Network Interfaces (RJ45 + Fiber) — Offers Ethernet and fiber connectivity options to accommodate different facility topologies and cable runs.
  • PoE Powered — Draws power from the network switch, reducing power supply count and simplifying installation in ceiling or rack enclosures.
  • USB, IR, and RS-232 Control — Extends control signals from the display end back to the source location for full remote device management.
  • Multi-Channel Audio Support — Carries uncompressed HDMI audio — including surround formats — as part of the IP stream without requiring a separate audio matrix.
  • MXNet EV2 Ecosystem Integration — Pairs directly with all MXNet Evolution II decoders and is managed through the MXNet EV2 control software for centralized routing and monitoring.
  • Entry-Level EV2 Pricing — Provides access to the full MXNet EV2 feature set without the added cost of Dante audio or TAA compliance for installations that do not require those certifications.

Typical Applications

  • Corporate conference room AV distribution over existing 1G network infrastructure
  • University lecture capture and multi-room display systems
  • Control room video wall and operator workstation distribution
  • Digital signage networks requiring centralized content routing
  • Government and enterprise AV-over-IP deployments on MXNet EV2 platforms

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this encoder compatible with MXNet V1 decoders?

No. This unit is exclusive to the MXNet Evolution II platform. If you have existing V1 decoders, you will need a V1-compatible encoder to serve them. MXNet EV2 encoders and V1 decoders cannot be mixed in the same system.

Does this encoder include Dante audio?

No. Dante audio is available on the separately sold MXNet EV2 Encoder with Dante. This base model carries uncompressed HDMI multi-channel audio over the IP stream but does not generate a Dante audio endpoint on the network.

What switch is required for an MXNet EV2 system?

MXNet EV2 requires a managed 1G switch with IGMP snooping enabled. AVPro Edge recommends switches from their approved compatibility list to ensure proper multicast routing and PoE budget for the number of endpoints installed.

Can I use the HDMI loop-out while the encoder is streaming?

Yes. The HDMI loop-out operates independently of the encoding process, allowing a locally connected monitor to display the source signal at full quality regardless of what is being distributed across the network.
