Product Overview

The AVPro Edge HDBaseT Extender Kit transmits HDMI signals over a single CAT6 cable at 10.2Gbps, supporting 4K60 4:2:0 video up to 40 meters and 1080p HD video up to 70 meters. The kit ships as a matched transmitter and receiver pair, both capable of bi-directional 12V power delivery so that either end can power the other over the same CAT6 run. RS232 and IR control pass-through are included for integration with control systems and infrared devices. Note that the maximum 4K resolution supported by this kit is 4:2:0 chroma subsampling — installations requiring full 4K60 4:4:4 or HDR at range will need the 18Gbps variant.

Product Description

HDBaseT is the established standard for long-distance HDMI extension over structured CAT cabling, and this AVPro Edge kit implements the 10.2Gbps specification suited for 4K sources with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling. The transmitter unit connects to the HDMI source and injects the signal onto a CAT6 cable run; the receiver at the far end decodes the signal and outputs standard HDMI to the display. The 40-meter 4K range and 70-meter HD range cover the majority of single-room and cross-room installation scenarios in both residential and light commercial settings.

AVPro Edge HDBaseT CAT6 Extender Kit 10.2G

Bi-directional 12V power means the installer can place the power supply at whichever end of the run is more accessible — transmitter or receiver — and the unit will supply power to its partner over the CAT6 cable. RS232 pass-through allows bidirectional serial communication for control systems such as Crestron or Control4, while IR pass-through enables remote control of source devices from the display location or vice versa. The slim form factor of both units keeps rack and shelf space usage minimal.

Key Features

  • 10.2Gbps HDBaseT Bandwidth — Supports 4K60 video at 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, the maximum for this bandwidth tier.
  • 40m 4K / 70m HD Range — Extends 4K signals 40 meters and 1080p signals up to 70 meters over a single CAT6 cable.
  • Bi-Directional 12V Power — Either the transmitter or receiver can supply power to the other unit over the same CAT6 run, reducing cabling complexity.
  • RS232 Pass-Through — Bidirectional serial control pass-through for Crestron, Control4, AMX, and other RS232-based control systems.
  • IR Pass-Through — Infrared control signals pass in both directions, allowing remote control of sources from the display end and vice versa.
  • Matched TX/RX Kit — Ships as a pre-matched transmitter and receiver pair, simplifying procurement and ensuring compatibility.
  • CAT6 Infrastructure — Uses standard CAT6 structured cabling already present in most commercial and residential installations.
  • Slim Form Factor — Compact transmitter and receiver housings minimize rack and surface space requirements.

Typical Applications

  • Extending HDMI from a media closet or rack to a display in a conference room, classroom, or residential living space up to 40 meters away.
  • Home theater installations where the source equipment is located in a separate equipment room from the display.
  • Hotel room AV systems requiring HDMI distribution from a head-end rack to in-room displays over existing CAT6 infrastructure.
  • Digital signage installations where the media player is centrally located and displays are distributed across a floor or building.
  • Corporate AV environments integrating with RS232 or IR-based control systems for centralized AV management.

Competitor Comparison

Model Bandwidth Max 4K Distance Max HD Distance Power Control
AVPro Edge HDBaseT Extender Kit (this unit) 10.2Gbps 40m (4K60 4:2:0) 70m Bi-directional 12V RS232, IR
Kramer TP-580TxrXL 10.2Gbps 40m (4K60 4:2:0) 70m Uni-directional PoC RS232, IR
Extron DTP HDMI 4K 230 10.2Gbps 35m (4K) 70m PoE (transmitter to receiver) RS232, IR

The AVPro Edge kit's bi-directional 12V power gives installers flexibility that the Kramer TP-580TxrXL's uni-directional PoC does not, allowing the power supply to be placed at either end of the cable run. The Extron DTP HDMI 4K 230 offers a slightly shorter 4K range at 35 meters compared to the AVPro Edge's 40 meters. All three units share the same core 10.2Gbps bandwidth ceiling and the 4K60 4:2:0 chroma limitation inherent to that tier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this extender support 4K60 4:4:4 or HDR?
No. The 10.2Gbps bandwidth limits maximum 4K output to 4:2:0 chroma subsampling. For 4K60 4:4:4 or HDR at range, the 18Gbps AVPro Edge HDBaseT extender is the appropriate choice.
Can I use CAT5e instead of CAT6?
CAT6 is specified and recommended. CAT5e may work at reduced distances but is not officially supported and may result in signal degradation.
Does bi-directional power mean I only need one power supply?
Yes. One power supply at either the transmitter or receiver end will power both units over the same CAT6 cable, reducing the number of power outlets and cables required at each end.
Is this compatible with 4K HDR sources?
The extender will pass 4K signals but is limited to 4:2:0 chroma subsampling. HDR metadata may pass depending on the display and source, but full HDR fidelity at 4:4:4 requires the higher-bandwidth 18Gbps model.
