Product Overview

The AVPro Edge MXNet 1G Feature Decoder provides a full-featured AV-over-IP receiving endpoint for MXNet V1 systems, delivering HDMI output alongside USB, IR, RS-232, fiber, and RJ45 connectivity in a single rack-mountable unit. This decoder is designed exclusively for MXNet V1 infrastructure and is not compatible with MXNet Evolution II (V2) systems — installers planning a new deployment should select an EV2 decoder instead. For existing MXNet V1 installations that require a replacement or expansion decoder with the full I/O complement, this unit provides all the control and network connectivity ports that the V1 platform supports. It is the V1 counterpart to the feature-rich EV2 decoder and serves the same functional role within a V1 system.

Product Description

In a MXNet V1 AV-over-IP system, the decoder sits at each display location and receives the IP video stream from the network, converting it back to HDMI for the connected monitor or display. This particular decoder model goes beyond basic video output by including USB, IR, RS-232, fiber, and RJ45 interfaces, making it suitable for installations that need bidirectional control and flexible network connectivity at the display end.

The RS-232 and IR ports allow the decoder to send control commands to the connected display, enabling a control system to power on/off, change inputs, and adjust settings on the monitor without requiring a separate control interface at each screen location. The USB port supports HID device extension, so keyboards and mice at the encoder location can be operated remotely from the display endpoint — useful in command center and control room configurations built on the V1 platform.

The dual network interface — both RJ45 and fiber — gives installers flexibility in how they connect the decoder to the building's network infrastructure, supporting facilities where fiber runs to individual display locations. Because the MXNet V1 platform has reached maturity, this decoder is recommended only for expanding or maintaining existing V1 systems. New installations should be designed around the MXNet Evolution II platform for access to the improved management tools, video quality enhancements, and ongoing firmware support of the EV2 ecosystem.

Key Features

  • HDMI Output — Delivers the decoded video and audio signal to the connected display at up to 4K UHD 60Hz, matching the resolution and audio format of the source.
  • Dual Network Interfaces (Fiber + RJ45) — Connects to the V1 network via either Cat6 Ethernet or fiber, accommodating display locations served by either cable type.
  • USB Port — Extends USB HID devices from the display location back to the source encoder, supporting remote KVM operation within a V1 AV-over-IP system.
  • IR Control Output — Sends IR commands to the connected display, allowing a central control system to operate the screen without a separate IR emitter installation.
  • RS-232 Display Control — Provides serial control output to the display for systems that use RS-232 to power manage and configure connected monitors.
  • PoE Powered — Receives power from the network switch, eliminating the need for a local power outlet at the display location.
  • MXNet V1 Compatible — Designed specifically for the MXNet V1 platform and managed through the V1 control software for routing and EDID management.
  • V2 Incompatible — Important Compatibility Note — This decoder will not function in a MXNet Evolution II system. Do not order this unit for new EV2 deployments.

Typical Applications

  • Expanding existing MXNet V1 AV-over-IP systems with additional display endpoints
  • Replacing failed V1 decoders in installed systems without changing the platform
  • Control room and command center displays in facilities running MXNet V1 infrastructure
  • University and corporate AV-over-IP networks originally commissioned on the V1 platform

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this decoder work with MXNet Evolution II encoders?

No. This decoder is exclusively compatible with MXNet V1 encoders and the V1 management platform. It cannot receive or decode streams from MXNet EV2 encoders. If you are building a new system, select a MXNet Evolution II decoder.

I have an existing MXNet V1 system. Can I add this decoder to it?

Yes, provided your system is running MXNet V1 infrastructure. This decoder can be added to an existing V1 system as an additional display endpoint and will be managed through the same V1 controller and software you already have in place.

Can I upgrade my V1 system to EV2 by swapping decoders?

No. MXNet V1 and Evolution II are separate platforms that are not interoperable. Upgrading from V1 to EV2 requires replacing both the encoders and decoders, as well as the control software. Contact Creation Networks for a migration assessment and quote.

What is the difference between this decoder and a basic V1 decoder?

This model includes the full I/O complement: USB, IR, RS-232, fiber, and RJ45 in addition to HDMI output. A basic V1 decoder may only include HDMI and RJ45. The additional ports on this unit are necessary for installations that need device control at the display end or USB HID extension.
