Overview
The AVPro Edge 1G Networked Audio Decoder with Built-In Amplifier is a standalone network audio endpoint that combines a Dante- and AES67-compliant audio decoder with a 25W-per-channel Class-D amplifier at 4 ohms. Connecting directly to a 1G Ethernet switch, it eliminates the need for a separate amplifier in small-to-medium zone deployments, reducing rack space, cabling complexity, and system cost. It is purpose-built for commercial AV integrators who need a reliable, standards-based audio distribution solution without the overhead of a dedicated amplifier chassis.
Description
Audio distribution in commercial spaces has increasingly moved to networked infrastructure. Dante and AES67 have become the dominant protocols in this space because they leverage standard IP networking, allow any-to-any routing through software, and support dozens to hundreds of endpoints on a single Ethernet fabric. The AVPro Edge 1G Networked Audio Decoder integrates both protocols, so it is compatible with third-party Dante consoles, AES67 sources, and AVPro Edge's own ecosystem.
The built-in 25W-per-channel amplifier (4 ohms) is adequate for driving ceiling or pendant speakers in spaces up to approximately 1,000 square feet at conversational listening levels, depending on speaker sensitivity. For background music or paging applications where a wall-mount or in-ceiling speaker is the terminal device, this decoder removes the intermediary amplifier from the signal path entirely.
Configuration and routing are managed through standard Dante Controller software (PC/Mac), requiring no proprietary control software for basic operation. AES67 interoperability allows sources from other manufacturers — including Biamp, QSC, and Shure — to feed this decoder directly, protecting existing infrastructure investments.
Key Features
- Dante and AES67 dual-protocol support for broad ecosystem compatibility
- 25W per channel continuous output at 4 ohms — no external amplifier required
- 1G Ethernet interface; connects to any standard managed or unmanaged network switch
- Configurable via Dante Controller — no proprietary software required for basic routing
- Stereo audio output suitable for ceiling speakers, pendant speakers, and small installed speaker systems
- Low-latency audio path consistent with Dante protocol specifications
- Compact form factor for above-ceiling, behind-display, or rack-shelf mounting
- Works within AVPro Edge MXNet ecosystem or as a standalone Dante endpoint
Typical Applications
- Conference room background music and paging zones
- Digital signage audio endpoints in retail and corporate lobbies
- Multi-zone background music distribution in restaurants, hotels, and healthcare facilities
- House-of-worship overflow and gathering-space audio feeds
- Educational classrooms requiring independently addressable audio zones
- AV-over-IP system expansions where amplified outputs are needed at the zone level

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does this unit require a Dante license or subscription to operate?
- No. Dante licensing is embedded in the device. Standard Dante Controller software (free download from Audinate) is all that is needed for routing configuration.
- Can this decoder receive audio from non-AVPro Edge sources?
- Yes. Any Dante or AES67 transmitter on the same network — regardless of manufacturer — can route audio to this decoder. It is not limited to the AVPro Edge ecosystem.
- What speaker impedance does it support?
- The amplifier output is rated at 4 ohms. It can also drive 8-ohm loads at reduced power. It is not designed for 70V or 100V distributed audio systems.
- Is Power over Ethernet (PoE) supported?
- The unit uses a local power supply rather than PoE. A standard Ethernet port on the switch provides data only; power is supplied separately.
- How many of these units can run on a single network switch?
- Multiple units can share the same 1G switch. Each unit consumes approximately 1–3 Mbps of bandwidth per active stereo stream, well within the capacity of standard managed switches used in AV-over-IP deployments.
