AVPro Edge 1G Dante Encoder — Standalone, External Power
The AVPro Edge 1G Dante Encoder is a standalone network audio device that accepts analog audio input and encodes it into a Dante stream for distribution across a 1G Ethernet network. Powered by an included external power supply, it operates without dependency on PoE switch infrastructure, giving integrators the flexibility to place the encoder at any analog audio source — microphone pre-amp output, mixer send, or media player — regardless of local switch capabilities. The encoder integrates directly into any Dante-based audio distribution system and is managed through Audinate's industry-standard Dante Controller software.
Description
Bringing local analog audio sources onto a Dante network is the primary function of this encoder. Once connected, it continuously captures analog line-level audio and transmits it as a Dante stream that any number of Dante-capable decoders, DSPs, or receivers can subscribe to simultaneously. This multicast-friendly approach allows a single encoder to feed multiple zones or endpoints without additional analog splitting infrastructure. External power means the encoder can be co-located with source equipment at stages, lecterns, or equipment closets where PoE may not be available.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does this encoder require an AVPro Edge video system to operate?
- No. The Dante Encoder is a standalone audio-only device. It connects directly to any standard 1G Ethernet network and participates in a Dante audio ecosystem independently of any video distribution infrastructure.
- Can one encoder feed audio to multiple rooms or zones at the same time?
- Yes. Dante supports multicast audio distribution, meaning a single encoder stream can be received simultaneously by multiple Dante decoders or Dante-enabled devices across the network without any additional analog splitting or distribution amplifiers.
- Why would I choose the external power version over the PoE version?
- The external power version is best when the installation location does not have a PoE-capable switch nearby, when the switch PoE power budget is at capacity, or when the encoder must be placed adjacent to source equipment with local AC power available.
- What kind of analog input does this encoder accept?
- The encoder accepts analog line-level audio input. It is intended to connect to the line output of mixers, pre-amplifiers, media players, and similar source equipment. Microphone-level signals typically require pre-amplification before connecting to the encoder.
