Overview
The AVPro Edge 10G SFP+ Copper RJ45 30M Module is a 10 Gigabit Ethernet transceiver that installs directly into the SFP+ port of an AVPro Edge 10G switch and connects to standard Cat6A or Cat7 copper cabling via an RJ45 jack. With a reach of up to 30 meters, it provides high-speed copper connectivity for short-to-medium distance 10G runs without requiring fiber infrastructure.
Description

In AV-over-IP installations, the majority of 10G connections run over fiber, but there are many scenarios where copper is the practical choice: existing copper infrastructure in a building, cost-sensitive short runs to endpoints, or situations where an installer needs to avoid fiber termination work. This SFP+ copper module plugs into any open SFP+ port and accepts a standard RJ45 patch cable, making it straightforward to deploy in any environment that has Cat6A or better cabling in place. The hot-swappable form factor means modules can be installed or replaced while the switch remains powered without disrupting other ports.

Key Features
- 10GBASE-T over copper — no fiber infrastructure required
- Up to 30 meters reach on Cat6A or Cat7 cabling
- Hot-swappable SFP+ form factor for live installation and replacement
- Compatible with AVPro Edge 10G switches and other standard SFP+ switches
- Simplifies short-run 10G deployments in environments with existing copper cabling
- RJ45 termination — no fiber splicing or polishing required
Typical Applications
- Connecting 10G AV-over-IP endpoints to AVPro Edge switches over existing building copper cabling
- Short-run 10G connections within an equipment room or between adjacent racks
- Installations where fiber termination is not practical or cost-justified
- Retrofit projects where Cat6A or Cat7 is already in place and fiber would require new conduit runs
- Cost-effective 10G endpoint connections in education, corporate, and house of worship installs

FAQ
- What cable category is required to achieve the full 30-meter range at 10G?
- Cat6A (augmented Category 6) is the minimum specification for 10GBASE-T at distances up to 30 meters. Cat5e and standard Cat6 are not rated for 10G at this distance. Cat7 and Cat8 will also work. Confirm that all patch panels, keystone jacks, and field terminations in the run also meet the Cat6A specification, as a single sub-standard component will limit the link.
- Can this module be used in non-AVPro SFP+ switches?
- 10GBASE-T SFP+ modules are industry-standard, and this module will fit any switch with an SFP+ slot. Some switches enforce a vendor lock-in via DOM (Digital Optical Monitoring) authentication. Verify your switch's compatibility before ordering if using with non-AVPro hardware.
- How does power consumption compare to a fiber SFP+ module?
- 10GBASE-T copper SFP+ modules consume significantly more power than fiber SFP+ modules — typically 1.5 to 2.5 watts versus under 1 watt for a fiber module. When deploying many copper modules in a single switch, verify the switch's per-slot and total power budget to avoid overload.
- What is the difference between this 30M module and an 80M version?
- The 30M module is optimized for shorter runs and typically draws slightly less power than the 80M variant. Choose the 30M when all runs are within 30 meters; choose the 80M when any run exceeds 30 meters up to 80 meters.
