Product Overview
The AVer CAM550 is a 4K dual-lens PTZ conferencing camera designed for mid-to-large conference rooms where a single fixed camera cannot adequately cover both the speaker and the full room. Two Sony 4K Exmor image sensors work together: a 12x optical zoom PTZ lens frames participants precisely, while a fixed AI lens with a 95° DFOV maintains a continuous panoramic view of the space. Together they enable dynamic auto-framing, picture-in-picture display, and Smart Gallery face-cropping — all managed by onboard AI without requiring a camera operator.
The CAM550 connects via USB 3.1, HDMI, and IP, and supports PoE+ for simplified installation. It is compatible with all major UC platforms and ships with a 3-year camera warranty.
Product Description
The AVer CAM550 4K dual lens PTZ conferencing camera addresses a fundamental limitation of single-lens PTZ cameras in large meeting rooms: when the camera zooms in to frame a speaker, the wide-angle view of other participants is lost. The CAM550 solves this with two independent 4K Sony Exmor sensors working in tandem. The primary PTZ lens offers 12x optical zoom (24x total with 2x digital) across a DFOV of 85°, enabling precise framing of individuals or small groups in medium and large rooms. The secondary AI lens maintains a fixed 95° DFOV panoramic view at all times, independently monitoring the full room.
The dynamic auto-framing system uses the AI lens to detect participants continuously. When a new attendee enters the room, the secondary lens detects their presence and signals the PTZ lens to automatically re-frame to include all visible participants. This fully automatic operation means the camera adapts to changing room occupancy throughout a meeting without any manual intervention. Preset framing can also be configured to track both a preset content area and the active speaker simultaneously.
Smart Gallery mode uses AI to crop and present individual participant faces in a gallery-style layout — useful for large-room meetings where participants are spread across a wide area. Both headshot and half-body framing modes are available. Gesture control allows participants to trigger camera functions by holding up a finger — useful for touchless operation in shared spaces, though it is disabled by default and must be enabled via PTZApp 2.
Output is simultaneously available over USB 3.1 Type-B (UVC 1.1, no driver required), HDMI (1080p 30/60fps), and IP (H.264/H.265 via RTSP and RTMP). HDMI enables a second display for local monitoring or picture-in-picture during video calls. AVer's virtual USB streaming technology allows the camera to present itself as a USB device over a single RJ45 network cable, eliminating USB cable length limitations in large rooms. PoE+ (802.3at) powers the camera over Ethernet, and the RS-232 Mini DIN9 port supports VISCA control and camera daisy-chaining.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does the dual-lens system work during a video call?
A: The CAM550 uses two independent 4K Sony Exmor sensors simultaneously. The PTZ lens frames the active speaker or a configured preset area, while the AI lens continuously monitors the full room at 95° DFOV. When participants move or new attendees enter the room, the AI lens detects the change and the PTZ lens automatically re-frames to include all visible participants. The HDMI output can display both views in a picture-in-picture format.
Q: Does the CAM550 require a PC to run AI tracking functions?
A: No. Dynamic auto-framing and Smart Gallery run onboard. A PC running PTZApp 2 is required to configure Smart Gallery, virtual USB streaming, and Preset Link features, but ongoing AI operation does not require a PC connection during meetings.
Q: What is virtual USB streaming and why is it useful?
A: Virtual USB streaming allows the CAM550 to present itself as a USB camera device over an IP network via a single RJ45 cable. This is useful when the camera is mounted far from the meeting room PC, as it eliminates the 5-meter practical limit of USB cables. The PTZApp 2 software must be installed on the PC to enable this feature.
Q: Can the CAM550 be installed on a ceiling?
A: The CAM550 does not support upside-down (ceiling-flush) installation due to its dual-lens design. For ceiling mounting, the optional AVer ceiling mount accessory is required, which positions the camera in an upright orientation below the ceiling. Minimum installation height is 1.5 m from the floor for the AI lens to function correctly.
Q: What control protocols does the CAM550 support?
A: The CAM550 supports VISCA, PELCO-P, and PELCO-D via RS-232 (Mini DIN9), and VISCA over IP. CGI commands are available via the WebUI (Chrome browser). The OSD can be accessed via HDMI output to a monitor. PTZApp 2 provides full software control for Windows and Mac.
Q: Is the CAM550 compatible with Microsoft Teams and Zoom?
A: Yes. The USB 3.1 Type-B connector presents the camera as a UVC 1.1 device, making it plug-and-play compatible with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex, Google Meet, Skype for Business, BlueJeans, GoToMeeting, and other major UC platforms. No driver installation is required.
