Product Overview
The AVPro Edge AC-MXNET-1G-EWP is a dual-gang Decora wall plate encoder for the MXNet 1G AV-over-IP ecosystem, allowing integrators to place a flush-mounted HDMI input anywhere a standard dual-gang electrical box exists and feed that signal into an MXNet distribution network over standard CAT5e or CAT6A cabling. The encoder converts the HDMI source signal into JPEG2000-compressed IP multicast packets at up to 850Mbps peak, enabling 4K60 4:4:4 video to be routed to any number of MXNet decoder endpoints across a Gigabit network switch. At $889, it is the purpose-built on-ramp for BYOD and fixed-source connections in conference rooms, huddle spaces, and classrooms where a rack-mounted encoder would be impractical. The unit also supports USB/KVM routing, RS-232, and IR signal passthrough for complete AV-over-IP control from the wall plate position.
Product Description
The AC-MXNET-1G-EWP integrates the encoding functionality of AVPro Edge's MXNet 1G encoder into a dual-gang Decora wall plate form factor, removing the need for a separate rack-mounted encoder at the source end of each input. An HDMI cable connects the presenter's device or a fixed source to the wall plate, and a single CAT5e or CAT6A cable from the wall plate RJ45 jack connects directly to the MXNet-compatible Gigabit network switch. From there, the encoded signal is multicast across the network to any designated MXNet decoder endpoint — including standard rack-mount decoders and display-mounted decoder units. MXNet Mentor, AVPro Edge's graphical setup and routing software, manages the encoder alongside all other MXNet nodes, providing drag-and-drop routing, resolution scaling, video wall configuration, and EDID management from a single interface. The JPEG2000 codec used by MXNet supports both lossy and lossless compression modes, genlock for video wall synchronization, 10-bit color, and HDR color space information. A built-in OLED "Data Window" display on the encoder shows connection status and signal information without requiring a laptop, while full exterior light control allows all LEDs — including network link lights — to be disabled for discreet installations. RS-232 and IR signals can be routed through the encoder directly to one or multiple decoder endpoints, and a USB-B host port supports USB/KVM device routing to a specified decoder for shared peripheral access.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the AC-MXNET-1G-EWP require a special network switch?
- It requires a Gigabit managed network switch capable of IGMP snooping for multicast traffic control. AVPro Edge has worked with Netgear to develop a dedicated AVPro Edge switch profile that simplifies configuration. Other managed switches supporting multicast routing are also compatible when configured appropriately.
- Can this wall plate encoder send to multiple displays at the same time?
- Yes. Because MXNet uses IP multicast, a single AC-MXNET-1G-EWP encoder can simultaneously feed any number of MXNet decoder endpoints on the same network without duplicating bandwidth for each display.
- Is the OLED display useful after installation?
- Yes — the built-in OLED Data Window shows the device's IP address, signal status, and connection health without requiring a laptop or software access. However, if the installation requires the encoder to be invisible, all exterior lights including the OLED can be fully disabled.
- What software is used to manage routing?
- MXNet Mentor is AVPro Edge's dedicated management tool for the MXNet ecosystem. It provides a graphical network topology view, drag-and-drop source-to-display routing, EDID management, video wall configuration, and resolution scaling — all from a single interface accessible on the local network.
