Product Overview
The AVPro Edge AC-MXNET-1G-E is the transmitting endpoint in the MXNet 1G AV-over-IP ecosystem, converting HDMI source signals into multicast IP streams that can be distributed to any number of AC-MXNET-1G-D decoders across a managed L3 network. Using JPEG 2000 compression, the encoder delivers visually lossless 4K 4:4:4 60Hz video at near-zero latency over standard Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure. It is designed for scalable commercial installations where multiple HDMI sources must be distributed to any combination of displays without the constraints of fixed-port matrix switching. The AC-MXNET-1G-E integrates with MXNet MENTOR software for complete control over routing, EDID management, bandwidth allocation, and video wall configuration.
Product Description
The AC-MXNET-1G-E connects to any HDMI 2.0 source — such as a media player, PC, camera, or cable box — and encodes the audio/video signal into a JPEG 2000-compressed multicast stream transmitted over CAT 6A-recommended Ethernet or optionally via SFP fiber for long-haul runs. All connected decoders on the same managed L3 network can receive this stream, with routing controlled entirely through the MXNet MENTOR software interface. The encoder supports HDMI 2.0 up to 18Gbps and HDCP 2.3, making it compatible with protected 4K HDR content from streaming and Blu-ray sources. A built-in OLED Data Window on the front panel displays the unit's IP address, MAC address, or a custom alphanumeric label of up to 12 characters — a practical feature during initial setup and for ongoing diagnostics in equipment racks. All LEDs and the OLED display can be individually disabled for installations where visible status lights would be intrusive. The encoder also acts as the host for USB/KVM operations, allowing a connected PC or device to be accessed from any decoder endpoint in the system via USB peripheral passthrough. Bandwidth usage per encoder stream is configurable through MXNet MENTOR, allowing integrators to optimize network load on shared infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How many decoders can receive a single AC-MXNET-1G-E encoder stream simultaneously?
- Because MXNet uses multicast routing, a single encoder stream can be received by any number of decoders simultaneously without multiplying bandwidth load on the encoder. The practical limit is determined by your network switch capacity and IGMP snooping configuration.
- What network switch is required for the AC-MXNET-1G-E?
- Any multicast-capable managed L3 switch with IGMP snooping is compatible. AVPro Edge and Netgear have jointly validated Netgear's managed switches with a dedicated AVPro Edge configuration profile for simplified setup.
- Does the encoder support 4K HDR content from streaming or Blu-ray players?
- Yes. The AC-MXNET-1G-E supports HDCP 2.3 for protected content and handles HDMI 2.0 signals up to 18Gbps, which covers 4K HDR sources including those using HDR10.
- Can I limit the bandwidth used by an individual encoder stream?
- Yes. MXNet MENTOR allows per-encoder bandwidth throttling, which is useful when deploying MXNet alongside other network traffic on a shared infrastructure.
