Product Overview

The AVPro Edge AC-MX-44HDBT is a 4x4 HDMI matrix switcher with four HDMI inputs and four output blocks, each delivering simultaneous mirrored HDMI and HDBaseT connections — providing up to eight active output connections from a single 4x4 matrix core. Supporting 18Gbps bandwidth and true 4K60 4:4:4 on all HDMI outputs, the unit uses AVPro's ICT (Invisible Compression Technology) to transmit full 18Gbps signals including HDR content over standard category cable on the HDBaseT outputs. This makes it the right choice for 4x4 matrix installations where some displays are locally connected via HDMI and others are in separate rooms connected via extended HDBaseT runs — all from the same output block without additional splitting hardware. EDID management, analog audio de-embedding, and audio delay are built in as standard, providing a complete signal management solution for commercial and residential integrators.

Product Description

The AC-MX-44HDBT routes any of four HDMI 2.0 sources to any of four output blocks independently. Each output block exposes one HDMI port and one HDBaseT port that mirror each other and are both active simultaneously. An HDMI-connected display and an HDBaseT-connected display in a separate room can both receive the same source from a single output block without a splitter, simplifying wiring and reducing component count.

The ICT technology on the HDBaseT outputs is designed to be truly invisible — it preserves HDR metadata and color depth in full integrity through the compression and decompression process. AVPro has validated this through side-by-side comparisons of ICT-transmitted signals against directly connected 18Gbps cable sources on identical displays, with evaluators unable to identify the compressed signal. The HDMI outputs support 1080p-to-4K upscaling, while the HDBaseT outputs support 4K-to-1080p downscaling, covering hybrid display environments from a single matrix configuration.

Dual audio de-embedding per output provides a balanced analog output (2-channel PCM via 5-pin terminal block) and a Toslink digital output (up to 7-channel LPCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital+, DTS, DTS Master Audio). Audio delay is adjustable per output up to 630ms for lip-sync correction, manageable from the front panel or the AEUI web interface. The HDBaseT Compatibility Mode (HDBT-C) allows per-output down-clocking of 18Gbps signals for compatibility with third-party HDBaseT extenders that do not support 18Gbps input.

Key Features

  • 4x4 Matrix with Mirrored HDMI + HDBaseT Output Blocks — Each of the four output blocks provides simultaneous HDMI and HDBaseT ports, active concurrently without a splitter.
  • True 18Gbps on HDMI Outputs — Full uncompressed 4K60 4:4:4 bandwidth on all HDMI outputs via HDMI 2.0(a/b).
  • ICT on HDBaseT Outputs — Invisible Compression Technology delivers full 18Gbps including HDR over standard category cable; HDR metadata and color depth preserved in full integrity.
  • HDBaseT Compatibility Mode (HDBT-C) — Per-output proprietary algorithm down-clocks 18Gbps signals for compatibility with third-party HDBaseT extenders that cap at lower bandwidths.
  • Per-Output Scaling — HDMI outputs support 1080p-to-4K upscaling; HDBaseT outputs support 4K-to-1080p downscaling for mixed display environments.
  • Full HDR Support — HDR10, HDR12, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG; all color space subsampling types (4:4:4, 4:2:2, 4:2:0) and 12-bit deep color.
  • HDCP 2.2 Compliance — Backward compatible with all earlier HDCP versions.
  • Dual Audio De-Embedding per Output — Balanced analog (2CH PCM) and Toslink digital (7CH LPCM, DD, DD+, DTS, DTS Master Audio); three routing modes.
  • Audio Delay up to 630ms per Output — Front panel or web UI adjustable per zone for lip-sync correction.
  • 29 Onboard EDIDs Including HDR Variants — Live EDID capture from connected displays; single-button application to inputs.
  • Built-In Test Pattern Generator per Output — Verifies infrastructure integrity before source connection.
  • IR, RS-232, and LAN Control — Driver support for Crestron, Control4, RTI, ELAN, and more.

Typical Applications

  • Corporate conference rooms with local HDMI-connected display walls and remote overflow screens on HDBaseT runs from the same matrix output
  • Hospitality suites and hotel meeting rooms distributing four sources to in-room HDMI screens and corridor HDBaseT displays simultaneously
  • Sports bars with four source inputs routed to nearby HDMI displays and remote patio or bar-top screens over category cable
  • Education facilities with presentation systems in classrooms connected locally via HDMI and to adjacent overflow rooms via HDBaseT
  • Houses of worship with sanctuary displays on HDMI and lobby or overflow room displays on HDBaseT from the same four-output matrix
  • Retail showrooms or product demonstration spaces requiring independent source routing with both local and remote display connections

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the HDMI and HDBaseT ports on each output block active at the same time?
Yes. Both ports on every output block are active simultaneously and carry the same signal. This allows a locally connected HDMI display and a remotely connected HDBaseT display to both receive the same source without a separate splitter or additional hardware.
What HDBaseT receivers are compatible with the AC-MX-44HDBT?
AVPro recommends the AC-EX70-444-RNE for full 18Gbps and HDR support up to 70 meters on Cat6. For installations requiring only 4K60 4:2:0 (10.2 Gbps), the AC-EX70-UHD-R supports runs up to 40 meters for 4K and up to 70 meters for 1080p.
Can I downscale on the HDMI outputs or upscale on the HDBaseT outputs?
No. The scaling on this unit is directional: HDMI outputs support upscaling from 1080p to 4K only, and HDBaseT outputs support downscaling from 4K to 1080p only. This is by design to match the typical use case where local HDMI displays are higher resolution and remote HDBaseT displays may be legacy 1080p units.
What is ICT and how does it differ from standard HDBaseT compression?
ICT (Invisible Compression Technology) is AVPro's proprietary algorithm for fitting 18Gbps signals into the bandwidth of a category cable. Unlike other compression methods that sacrifice HDR metadata or cause banding and color shift artifacts, ICT preserves all HDR information and color depth. The result is validated as indistinguishable from a directly connected source in side-by-side testing.
Does HDBT-C affect all HDBaseT outputs simultaneously?
No. HDBaseT Compatibility Mode is a per-output setting. Integrators can enable HDBT-C on individual outputs that feed third-party extenders requiring lower bandwidth, while other outputs continue transmitting at full 18Gbps ICT.
