Product Overview

The AVPro Edge AC-AXION-4 is a 4x4 HDMI matrix switcher with mirrored HDBaseT and HDMI outputs, purpose-built for commercial AV installations that require Dolby Atmos and DTS-X audio downmixing alongside full 4K60 4:4:4 video distribution. Unlike conventional matrices that pass audio unmodified, the AXION-4 downmixes bitstream audio — including Dolby Atmos and DTS-X — to 2-channel PCM on the de-embedded audio outputs, while the HDMI and HDBaseT video outputs carry the original full audio stream unimpeded. Integrators working on multi-zone residential or commercial installs with a mix of Atmos home theaters and standard 2-channel zones will find this matrix eliminates the need for external audio processing hardware. With ICT technology on the HDBaseT outputs, 18Gbps signals including HDR content are transmitted over standard category cable without visible compression artifacts.

Product Description

The AC-AXION-4 accepts four HDMI 2.0 sources and provides four output blocks, each with a mirrored HDMI port and an HDBaseT port that are both active simultaneously. This gives integrators up to eight simultaneous output connections (four HDMI + four HDBaseT) from a single 4x4 matrix core. The HDBaseT outputs use AVPro's ICT (Invisible Compression Technology), which compresses the 18Gbps signal for category cable transport while preserving HDR metadata and color depth in full integrity — the output is indistinguishable from a directly connected source.

The AXION Interface (AEUI) is a fully redesigned web-based control platform built from the ground up by AVPro engineers. It provides complete matrix control, EDID management, audio routing configuration, volume control, and signal diagnostics from any networked browser or mobile device using the default IP address (192.168.1.239) or DHCP. A front panel display enables basic configuration — including EDID, audio, and network settings — without connecting a PC, which is useful during initial setup on the job site.

AVPro Edge AC-AXION-4 rear panel

Dual audio de-embedding is available on each output, providing a balanced analog output (2-channel PCM, always downmixed) and a Toslink digital output with three operating modes: bound to output, bound to input, or fully independent matrix routing. Volume control over de-embedded outputs is available via control commands, making zone-level audio management practical without external DSP equipment.

Key Features

  • Dolby Atmos and DTS-X Downmixing — Downmixes bitstream audio including Dolby Atmos and DTS-X to 2-channel PCM on de-embedded outputs; HDMI/HDBaseT outputs carry full unimpeded audio.
  • 4x4 Matrix with Mirrored HDMI + HDBaseT Output Blocks — Four output blocks each provide simultaneous HDMI and HDBaseT ports, yielding up to eight active output connections.
  • ICT on HDBaseT Outputs — Invisible Compression Technology transmits full 18Gbps signals including 4K60 4:4:4 and HDR over standard category cable with no visible artifacts.
  • True 4K60 4:4:4 at 18Gbps — HDMI 2.0(a/b) signal path with full HDR support including HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, and 12-bit deep color.
  • HDCP 2.3 Compliance — Backward compatible with all earlier HDCP versions across all inputs and outputs.
  • Per-Output 4K Downscaler on HDBaseT Outputs — Downscales 4K to 1080p on HDBaseT outputs for compatibility with mixed-resolution display environments.
  • Advanced EDID Management — 29 onboard EDIDs including HDR variants; live EDID capture from connected displays with single-button application.
  • AXION Interface (AEUI) — Rebuilt web-based control UI accessible from any browser or mobile device; front panel display for on-site configuration.
  • Volume Control per De-Embedded Output — Manages audio levels at each zone via control commands without external DSP.
  • Three Extracted Audio Routing Modes — Bind to output, bind to input, or independent audio matrix routing.
  • Audio Delay for Digital and Analog Outputs — Per-output lip-sync correction up to 630ms.
  • IR, RS-232, and LAN Control — Driver support for Crestron, Control4, RTI, ELAN, and other major control systems.

Typical Applications

  • Multi-zone residential installs with a dedicated Dolby Atmos theater and secondary 2-channel audio zones
  • Corporate boardrooms and conference centers distributing multiple HDMI sources to local and remote displays over HDBaseT
  • Hotels with in-room and common-area display distribution requiring both short HDMI runs and extended HDBaseT runs from a single matrix
  • Sports bars and restaurants with four display zones needing independent source switching and audio zone control
  • Education facilities with instructor stations, classroom displays, and remote overflow screens on category cabling
  • Houses of worship with front-of-house screens and lobby overflow displays on separate cable types

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Dolby Atmos downmixing work in a multi-zone install?
The AC-AXION-4 downmixes Atmos and DTS-X audio only on the de-embedded analog and Toslink outputs. The four HDMI and four HDBaseT video outputs carry the original full Atmos audio stream unmodified. This means a zone-one Atmos receiver gets the full object-based audio, while zones two through four get clean 2-channel PCM from the de-embedded outputs — no source-side reconfiguration required.
What cable type is required for the HDBaseT outputs?
AVPro recommends Cat6 or Cat6A for the HDBaseT outputs using ICT. For full 18Gbps performance up to 70 meters, use the AC-EX70-444-RNE receiver. For 4K60 4:2:0 (10.2 Gbps) runs up to 70 meters, the AC-EX70-UHD-R is an option.
Can the HDMI and HDBaseT ports on the same output block show different sources?
No. The HDMI and HDBaseT ports on each output block are mirrored — they always carry the same source signal. To route different sources to the HDMI and HDBaseT ports independently, you would need a larger matrix or an additional switcher.
Does the AC-AXION-4 support 4K on HDBaseT outputs?
Yes. ICT technology allows the full 18Gbps signal, including 4K60 4:4:4 and HDR, to be transmitted over category cable. The HDBaseT outputs also support per-output downscaling from 4K to 1080p for compatibility with displays that do not support 4K.
What control systems have native driver support?
AVPro Edge provides drivers for Crestron, Control4, RTI, and ELAN. The AXION Interface is also accessible via TCP/IP for integration with platforms that support open API control.
