The Audio-Technica AT8202 is an adjustable in-line attenuator that reduces a microphone signal in switchable steps to prevent input overload on high-SPL sources. It inserts between a microphone and a mixer or recorder on standard XLR, making it a practical tool for loud stages and instruments in commercial AV and broadcast.
Product Description
The AT8202 sits in line on an XLR cable and lets an engineer drop level by a selected amount before it reaches the preamp, preventing clipping when a microphone is too hot for the input.
Switchable attenuation of 10, 20, or 30 dB covers a range of loud sources, and the rugged in-line housing passes phantom power for condenser microphones.
It is useful on guitar cabinets, drums, brass, and other high-SPL sources where a microphone or input lacks a pad.
