Product Overview
The Atomos Shogun HDR Classic is a 7-inch 3000-nit HDR touchscreen monitor-recorder-switcher that combines on-camera monitoring, 4K ProRes recording, and four-channel SDI live switching in a single portable unit. Designed for cinema production, live event coverage, and broadcast work, the Shogun Classic accepts up to 4Kp60 from HDMI 2.0 and up to 4Kp60 from SDI, records in Apple ProRes and Avid DNx formats to removable SSD, and switches between four SDI sources in real time. At 3000 cd/m² peak brightness with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, it delivers a reference-quality display that holds up in high-ambient-light production environments.
Product Description
The Atomos Shogun HDR Classic brings broadcast-quality monitoring, professional recording, and live switching into a compact 7-inch form factor that travels with the production. The 7.2-inch 1920 x 1200 SuperAtom IPS panel with full-array local dimming delivers 3000 nits of peak brightness at a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, rendering HDR footage with the accuracy needed for on-set color decisions and live production monitoring in varied lighting conditions.
In single-camera mode, the Shogun Classic records 4Kp60 Apple ProRes HQ/422/LT and Avid DNxHD/DNxHR from HDMI or SDI sources directly to removable SATA SSD via the Master Caddy II/III system. In multi-camera mode, four SDI inputs function as ISO feeds—each recording independently at up to 1080p60—while a fifth switched program channel captures the live-switched output. Switching between feeds is handled from the touchscreen with asynchronous source support, removing the requirement for genlocked cameras. Cross-conversion between HDMI and SDI provides additional routing flexibility in mixed-format signal chains.
The Shogun Classic's professional monitoring toolset covers custom 3D LUTs, ARRI and Atomos false color, EL Zone exposure, focus peaking, pixel magnification (1:1 and 2:1), RGB parade, vectorscope, waveform, frame guides, zebra, SMPTE safe areas, and anamorphic de-squeeze. LTC timecode input via BNC supports multi-camera synchronization. Audio handling includes two-channel balanced XLR input and output via optional cable, embedded HDMI/SDI audio, and a 3.5mm headphone output. Dual NP-F/L-series battery plates on the rear provide field power, with a locking DC input for continuous AC operation.
