Product Overview
The Atlona AT-GAIN-120 is a compact 120-watt Class D stereo and mono power amplifier designed for low and high impedance commercial audio applications in meeting rooms, conference rooms, classrooms, and facility-wide distributed audio systems. Supporting both stereo operation at 2 x 60 watts into 4 or 8 ohms and mono bridged output at 120 watts into 70 V or 100 V distributed speaker systems, this commercial power amplifier for AV integration delivers ENERGY STAR-qualified efficiency with convection cooling and no fan noise. Integration with Atlona AV switchers, OmniStream AV over IP systems, and optional Dante/AES67 networked audio via the AT-GAIN-NET expansion card makes the AT-GAIN-120 a flexible amplifier solution for modern commercial AV environments.
Product Description
The Atlona AT-GAIN-120 (Gain 120) is a compact, rack-compatible power amplifier engineered for a broad range of commercial sound reinforcement applications. A front-panel mode selector switch allows the unit to operate as a two-channel stereo amplifier delivering 60 watts per channel into 4 or 8 ohm program speakers, or as a single-channel mono amplifier delivering 120 watts into 70 V or 100 V distributed speaker systems for ceiling speaker arrays in lobbies, classrooms, and large conference rooms. The Class D amplifier design delivers high efficiency while generating minimal heat, and the convection-cooled chassis eliminates the need for cooling fans, making the Gain 120 suitable for quiet installation environments including occupied conference rooms and boardrooms. A balanced analog input (5-pin captive screw, 20 kilohm impedance) accepts signal from AV switchers, DSPs, and audio matrices, while a balanced line-level output passes audio to an additional amplifier or audio system. Rear-panel input gain controls for left and right channels allow level matching at installation. An integrated five-band equalizer with adjustment at 40 Hz, 150 Hz, 500 Hz, 2 kHz, and 10 kHz (plus or minus 10 dB per band) enables acoustic compensation for the room. Automatic standby activates after 5 to 25 minutes of no input signal, with standby power consumption below 0.5 watts to meet ENERGY STAR requirements. A trigger port (2-pin captive screw) accepts contact closure from an occupancy sensor or control system to wake the amplifier from standby or power it down. TCP/IP control enables volume, muting, and EQ adjustment from Atlona Velocity or third-party control systems. An optional AT-GAIN-NET networked audio card adds a dual-channel AES67 and Dante audio bridge, enabling the amplifier to receive audio directly from OmniStream AV over IP encoders or any Dante/AES67-equipped DSP on the network. Note: the AT-RACK-1RU rack shelf is a required accessory for rack installation, and the unit requires 2U of rack space when rack mounted. The AT-GAIN-120 has been discontinued by Atlona; the AT-GAIN-M120 is the recommended current replacement product.
Key Features
- Selectable Stereo or Mono Operation — Mode selector switch configures the amplifier for 2 x 60 W stereo into 4 or 8 ohms, or 1 x 120 W mono into 70 V or 100 V distributed speaker systems, covering both program and distributed audio applications from a single unit.
- Class D Efficient Design — High-efficiency Class D topology minimizes power draw and heat output, reducing operating costs and simplifying thermal management in enclosed AV equipment spaces.
- Convection Cooled, No Fans — Passive convection cooling eliminates fan noise entirely, making the Gain 120 appropriate for installation in occupied rooms, quiet boardrooms, and noise-sensitive environments.
- ENERGY STAR Qualified — Meets ENERGY STAR power consumption requirements with normal standby consumption below 0.5 W and network standby below 2 W.
- Automatic Standby — Configurable 5 to 25-minute inactivity timer powers the unit to standby mode when no signal is detected, reducing energy consumption during unoccupied periods.
- Integrated 5-Band Equalizer — Adjustable EQ at 40 Hz, 150 Hz, 500 Hz, 2 kHz, and 10 kHz bands with plus or minus 10 dB range per band enables room acoustic compensation without external processing.
- Balanced Line Level Output — Pass-through balanced line output (5-pin captive screw) feeds a second amplifier or audio system, enabling zone expansion without an additional signal splitter.
- TCP/IP Control — Ethernet-based control of volume, muting, and EQ integrates with Atlona Velocity and other IP-based control systems for centralized AV management.
- Trigger Port — 2-pin captive screw trigger input accepts contact closure from occupancy sensors or control systems to remotely power the amplifier on or wake it from standby.
- Optional Dante/AES67 Networked Audio — The optional AT-GAIN-NET expansion card adds a dual-channel AES67 and Dante audio bridge, enabling audio reception from OmniStream AV encoders, Dante-networked DSPs, and AES67-compatible audio devices.
- Integrated Protection Circuitry — Automatic protection activates on clipping, short circuit, thermal overload, and other fault conditions, with front-panel LED indication of protection status.
- 1U Half-Rack Width Enclosure — Compact footprint suits installations where space is limited; requires AT-RACK-1RU rack shelf accessory for rack mounting (2U total rack space required).

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Can the AT-GAIN-120 drive both 70 V distributed ceiling speakers and stereo program speakers?
- Not simultaneously. A rear-panel mode selector switch configures the unit for either stereo low-impedance operation (2 x 60 W into 4 or 8 ohms) or mono high-impedance operation (1 x 120 W into 70 V or 100 V). The mode must be set at installation to match the speaker system.
- Q: Is the AT-GAIN-120 still in production?
- No. The AT-GAIN-120 has been discontinued by Atlona. The current replacement product is the AT-GAIN-M120, which offers updated features and is actively manufactured. Remaining AT-GAIN-120 inventory is available while supplies last.
- Q: Does the AT-GAIN-120 require a rack shelf for rack installation?
- Yes. The AT-RACK-1RU heavy-duty rack mount shelf is a required accessory for rack installation of the AT-GAIN-120. The unit occupies 1U at half rack width but requires 2U of total rack space when installed with the shelf.
- Q: How does the automatic standby feature work?
- The amplifier monitors the analog input for signal presence. After a configurable period of 5 to 25 minutes with no input signal detected, the unit enters standby mode with power consumption below 0.5 W. It wakes automatically when signal is detected, or can be triggered by the external trigger port.
- Q: What is the AT-GAIN-NET and does it come included?
- The AT-GAIN-NET is an optional networked audio expansion card for the AT-GAIN-120 that adds a dual-channel AES67 and Dante audio bridge. It is sold separately and allows the amplifier to receive audio directly over an IP network from Dante-enabled DSPs and Atlona OmniStream AV over IP encoders. It does not come included with the AT-GAIN-120.
- Q: Can the AT-GAIN-120 be controlled by a third-party control system?
- Yes. The unit is controllable via TCP/IP over Ethernet, enabling volume level, muting, and EQ adjustments from Atlona Velocity, Crestron, AMX, and other IP-based AV control systems. An external trigger port also accepts contact closure for power control from occupancy sensors.
- Q: What protection features are built into the AT-GAIN-120?
- The amplifier includes integrated protection circuitry that activates automatically in the event of clipping, short circuit across the speaker outputs, thermal overload, and other fault conditions. Front-panel LEDs indicate protection status, and the unit includes low inrush current design to prevent audible thumps when multiple amplifiers power on simultaneously.
