Product Overview

The Atlas Sound TSD-ML11 is a single-channel, high-headroom mic/line preamplifier designed for commercial meeting environments requiring push-to-talk microphone control, feedback management, and output limiting in a compact TSD-series module. As a 1x1 mic/line preamp with push-to-talk and notch filters, it is purpose-built for conference rooms, council chambers, courtrooms, and public forum systems where individual speaker control, system protection, and voice clarity are critical requirements. Long-tail applications include boardroom push-to-talk mic preamp, courtroom microphone controller with mute, and small-room mic preamp with feedback notch filter.

Product Description

The TSD-ML11 accepts a balanced mic or line input via a removable Phoenix-style connector and delivers a clean, limited balanced output to downstream amplification. The unit’s mic preamp is variable, allowing the gain to be set precisely to minimize noise while maintaining adequate headroom for the connected microphone. Phantom power (24VDC, defeatable) accommodates condenser microphones. Four preset notch filters are provided at common frequencies for tone shaping and feedback reduction, targeting the specific frequencies where acoustic feedback and room resonances most frequently occur in small meeting spaces. A 125Hz / 12dB high-pass filter is available to eliminate bass rumble and low-frequency coloration from the voice signal. A contact-closure-activated Mic Mute and Mic On function enables push-to-talk operation, allowing microphones to be gated by hardware controls such as push buttons, conference system interfaces, or automation control systems. The variable output limiter/compressor protects the downstream signal path from clipping and distortion caused by sudden loud inputs. Input signal and peak indicator LEDs provide visual level monitoring. Separate ground connections and removable connectors support clean, installer-friendly wiring in rackmounted TSD systems. The unit operates at 24VDC drawing 100mA from a separately purchased TSD power supply.

Key Features

  • High-Quality Variable Mic Preamp — Adjustable gain mic preamp with 46dB gain capability and switchable 24VDC phantom power for condenser microphone support.
  • Four Preset Notch Filters — Factory-set notch filters at common feedback and resonance frequencies provide fast tone shaping and acoustic feedback control without external equalization.
  • 125Hz / 12dB Low-Cut Filter — Defeatable high-pass filter attenuates bass rumble and low-frequency coloration to maintain voice focus and clarity.
  • Mic Mute / Mic On via Contact Closure — Contact-closure-activated push-to-talk or mute function integrates with conference control systems, hardware panels, or automation.
  • Variable Output Limiter/Compressor — Protects downstream amplification from clipping and distortion caused by sudden loud inputs in high-headroom applications.
  • High-Gain Output for Long-Distance Transmission — Balanced output with 300Ω impedance drives long cable runs to remote amplifiers without signal degradation.
  • Signal and Peak Indicator LEDs — Visual level monitoring on the input channel assists with gain staging during installation and operation.
  • Removable Phoenix-Style Connectors and Security Covers — Field-serviceable connectors and tamper-resistant front panel covers support professional commercial deployments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What microphone types are compatible with the TSD-ML11?

A: The TSD-ML11 accepts dynamic and condenser microphones. Condenser microphones requiring 24VDC phantom power are supported via the defeatable phantom power switch. The variable preamp gain accommodates microphones with varying output levels.

Q: How does the push-to-talk (Mic Mute/Mic On) function work?

A: A dry contact closure input activates the Mic On or Mic Mute function, allowing integration with hardware push-buttons, conference control systems, or DSP logic outputs for speaker-priority microphone gating.

Q: What do the four preset notch filters target?

A: The four notch filters are centered at common acoustic feedback and resonance frequencies encountered in small commercial meeting spaces. They provide fast feedback rejection and tone control without requiring external equalization equipment.

Q: Does the TSD-ML11 include a power supply?

A: No. A 24VDC TSD power supply is required and sold separately. The TSD-ML11 draws 100mA; use the AtlasIED TSD Power Calculator to size the supply when combining multiple TSD modules.

Q: Can the output limiter be adjusted?

A: Yes. The output limiter/compressor threshold is variable, allowing the installer to set the limiting level appropriate to the downstream amplifier’s input sensitivity and the application’s headroom requirements.
