Product Overview

The Atlas Sound SMP-15 is a 15" 2-way passive portable speaker designed for live sound reinforcement, mobile DJ, and production monitoring applications where high SPL and broad frequency coverage are required from a portable enclosure. The SMP-15 pairs a 15" die-cast frame low-frequency driver with a horn-loaded high-frequency compression driver, delivering 98.5 dB sensitivity and 300-watt RMS power handling across a 69 Hz to 16.5 kHz frequency response. The 90° x 40° dispersion pattern provides controlled coverage suitable for both main speaker and stage monitor configurations. The SMP-15 is designed to operate as a companion passive cabinet to Atlas Sound's powered SMA series, connecting via the included Speak-ON connector for a straightforward shared-source setup.

Product Description

The SMP-15 was engineered as the passive counterpart to the powered SMA series, allowing a system designer to expand coverage from a single powered head unit to multiple cabinets without requiring additional amplifiers. Each SMP-15 cabinet includes a Speak-ON input connector for direct connection to the powered SMA unit, which drives both the powered and passive cabinets from a single audio source — a configuration that reduces equipment count and cable runs in production environments.

The 15" die-cast frame woofer provides the structural rigidity needed to handle repeated transport and the mechanical stress of extended SPL-demanding applications. The horn-style high-frequency compression driver covers the upper frequency range, with the 90° x 40° (horizontal by vertical) dispersion pattern that is standard for live sound work — wide enough for audience coverage, controlled enough to reduce stage wash. At 98.5 dB sensitivity and 300 watts RMS, the SMP-15 can achieve the output levels required for small to medium-sized live event coverage as either a front-of-house main or a side-fill.

The rugged injection-molded polypropylene enclosure handles the impacts and environmental exposure inherent in portable production use. Easy-grip handles are provided on the top and two sides of the enclosure for two-person or single-operator transport. An integral 1-3/8" pole socket on the bottom allows the SMP-15 to be mounted on a standard speaker stand such as the Atlas Sound SS500E for front-of-house main speaker use, or the cabinet can be placed on-stage as a floor wedge monitor at appropriate angles.

Key Features

  • 15" Die-Cast Frame Low-Frequency Driver — Rigid die-cast aluminum basket resists flex under high-excursion operation, maintaining consistent alignment and reducing distortion during sustained high-output use.
  • Horn-Style High-Frequency Compression Driver — High-efficiency HF driver with horn loading provides extended high-frequency projection and controlled dispersion for live sound coverage.
  • 98.5 dB Sensitivity — High sensitivity rating allows the SMP-15 to achieve substantial SPL levels without requiring outsized amplifier power from the driving SMA unit.
  • 300-Watt RMS Power Handling — Handles the sustained output of live event applications without thermal compression or power damage under normal operating conditions.
  • 90° x 40° Dispersion — Standard live sound dispersion pattern provides broad horizontal audience coverage with controlled vertical throw to minimize stage and ceiling reflections.
  • Speak-ON Input Connector — Locking Speak-ON input ensures reliable, vibration-proof connection to the powered SMA series amplifier module during transport and live use.
  • Integral 1-3/8" Pole Socket — Bottom pole socket is compatible with the Atlas Sound SS500E and standard speaker stands for front-of-house mains deployment.
  • Easy-Grip Handles (Top and 2 Sides) — Three-position handle placement supports one or two-person transport in tight stage and venue environments.
  • Injection-Molded Polypropylene Enclosure — Rugged, impact-resistant enclosure construction withstands the loading, transport, and environmental exposure of regular production use.

Typical Applications

  • Multi-purpose room
  • Auditorium
  • House of worship
  • All-hands room
  • Training room

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the SMP-15 require its own amplifier?

A: The SMP-15 is a passive speaker and requires an external amplifier. It is specifically designed to pair with the Atlas Sound SMA powered speaker series, connecting via the included Speak-ON connector to share the SMA's built-in amplifier. It can also be driven by any compatible 8-ohm external amplifier.

Q: Can the SMP-15 be used as a stage monitor?

A: Yes. The wide frequency response, high sensitivity, and 90° x 40° dispersion make the SMP-15 usable in stage monitor configurations, in addition to front-of-house main speaker duty. The enclosure can be positioned on stage at an angle appropriate for floor wedge monitoring.

Q: What speaker stand is compatible with the SMP-15?

A: The SMP-15 has a 1-3/8" integral pole socket compatible with the Atlas Sound SS500E speaker stand and other standard-thread speaker stands with a 1-3/8" pole diameter.

Q: What is the power handling of the SMP-15?

A: The SMP-15 handles 300 watts RMS continuous power. Peak power handling will be higher; consult the official AtlasIED data sheet for peak/program ratings.

Q: Is the SMP-15 suitable for permanent installation as well as portable use?

A: The SMP-15 is primarily designed for portable production applications. For permanent installed sound applications, Atlas Sound offers fixed-installation speaker models better suited to that use case.

Q: What is the warranty on the SMP-15?

A: The SMP-15 is covered by AtlasIED's standard commercial product warranty. Contact Creation Networks or AtlasIED for current warranty terms and support.
