Product Overview

The Atlas Sound IP-8SM is a PoE+ indoor wall and ceiling mount IP speaker with a built-in talkback microphone, designed for network paging, mass notification, and intercom over standard LAN infrastructure. Part of the AtlasIED IPX Series, it uses a high-output 8-inch coaxial driver to cut through high ambient noise in large spaces where smaller network speakers fall short. The speaker registers directly with InformaCast and Syn-Apps SA-Announce notification platforms, or as a native SIP endpoint with a SIP server or VoIP communications manager. For campuses and enterprises standardizing alerts, bell schedules, and announcements on one communications platform, the IP-8SM is a single-cable endpoint that installs like a VoIP phone.

Product Description

Atlas Sound IP-8SM PoE+ wall ceiling mount IP speaker with talkback microphone

The IP-8SM is fitted with an 8-inch (205 mm) coaxial speaker optimized for voice intelligibility, driven by an integrated 15-watt amplifier with an 8-ohm primary speaker output. An omnidirectional subminiature electret condenser microphone mounts behind the grille's steel perforation adjacent to the speaker, enabling two-way intercom or audio monitoring from the speaker location to any PC or phone handset — a key requirement for school safety and physical security deployments. The 18-gauge metal grille provides security and durability in commercial environments, finished in neutral white electrostatic powder coat with all mounting screws included; the speaker, grille, and amp/control board ship factory assembled. On the network side, the speaker supports IEEE 802.3 10/100Base-T Ethernet, 802.1q VLAN tagging, and 802.3at PoE+ power, with auto-registration via SLP for Singlewire InformaCast, DHCP Option 72 for Syn-Apps, or IEDNet+ for AtlasIED applications — plus a built-in HTTP GUI for static configuration. Sitting on the voice VLAN, IP speakers and VoIP phones share the same quality of service, so paging and emergency audio receive the same network priority as telephone calls. Audio options extend beyond the network with balanced auxiliary line-in and line-out connections (2.8 Vpp, 10K), and GPI/O ports (two general purpose inputs, one 2A at 30 VDC output) trigger intercom requests, critical alert notification, or connectivity to third-party systems such as door hardware and strobes. In Cisco environments, the IP-8SM joins Cisco SRST endpoint architecture, preserving phone-to-speaker communication at remote sites during WAN outages. Wall flush, wall surface, slanted, and ceiling tile mounting hardware options are sold separately. For mounting accessory selection and notification platform integration support, contact Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • 8" Coaxial Driver with 15W Amplifier — High-output, voice-optimized driver covers large rooms and noisy spaces a small network speaker cannot reach.
  • Integrated Talkback Microphone — Concealed electret condenser mic enables two-way intercom and room monitoring from any PC or phone handset.
  • PoE+ Single-Cable Installation — IEEE 802.3at power and audio over one Ethernet drop eliminates local power and dedicated speaker wiring.
  • InformaCast and SA-Announce Native — Registers directly as an endpoint in Singlewire and Syn-Apps mass notification platforms for alerts, bells, and scheduled announcements.
  • Direct SIP Registration — Operates as a SIP device with any compatible SIP server or VoIP communications manager, no middleware required.
  • Cisco SRST Support — Maintains local paging and intercom at remote sites when the central Cisco Unified Communications Manager is unreachable.
  • GPI/O for Third-Party Integration — Two inputs and one 2A relay output trigger intercom requests, alerts, or external devices.
  • Balanced Aux Line-In and Line-Out — 2.8 Vpp balanced connections feed local sources or extend audio to additional amplification.
  • G.711 and G.722 Wideband Audio — Standard VoIP codecs including wideband G.722 improve speech clarity on announcements.
  • Durable Commercial Build — 18-gauge steel grille in neutral white powder coat, factory assembled for fast field installation.

Typical Applications

  • Government space critical alert and public address endpoints
  • Training room and multi-purpose room paging with talkback
  • Commercial meeting space and corridor announcement coverage
  • House of worship campus intercom and notification
  • Auditorium and all-hands room overflow paging

Frequently Asked Questions

Which notification platforms support the IP-8SM?
It registers natively with Singlewire InformaCast and Syn-Apps SA-Announce, and can also register directly as a SIP endpoint with a SIP server or VoIP communications manager when third-party software is not used.

How is the speaker mounted?
The IP-8SM supports indoor wall or ceiling installation. Mounting hardware is sold separately: IP-FEST-S (flush in-wall), IP-SEST-S (surface on-wall), IP-SEA-S (slanted on-wall), IP-STBE (ceiling tile support and enclosure), and IP-STB (tile support only).

Does it require a separate power supply?
No. The speaker is IEEE 802.3at PoE+ compliant and runs from a standard PoE+ switch port; an external power supply option exists for non-PoE networks.

Can the talkback microphone be used for room monitoring?
Yes. The integrated mic supports two-way communication and audio monitoring from the speaker location to any PC or phone handset, subject to your organization's policies.

Does the IP-8SM work in Cisco SRST deployments?
Yes. It joins Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony as a supported endpoint, keeping local phone-to-speaker communication available during WAN outages.

How are firmware updates handled?
IPX Series firmware updates are distributed through AtlasIED tech support to match your specific system. Creation Networks can assist with coordinating updates and system configuration.

What warranty applies?
AtlasIED covers the IP-8SM for 60 months from date of purchase, with design and integration support available from Creation Networks.
