Product Overview

The Atlas Sound GSS-G is an all-weather outdoor landscape speaker system designed for permanent installation in landscaped commercial environments including theme parks, hotels, resorts, and architecturally designed outdoor spaces. The system features a coaxial 8-inch polyethylene-enclosed speaker with a 32-watt 70V transformer and a short-base surface mount configuration that supports a two-phase installation process, protecting the speaker during site construction and landscaping. This 70V outdoor garden speaker delivers 360-degree horizontal audio coverage with a downward-firing design that resists dust and condensation accumulation.

Product Description

The GSS-G uses an 8-inch coaxial speaker with a polypropylene/Kevlar cone, rubber surround, 1.5-inch voice coil, 21-ounce magnet, and a 1/2-inch Mylar dome tweeter housed in a stable polyethylene enclosure built to withstand temperature extremes, humidity, and UV exposure. The downward-firing speaker orientation prevents dust and condensation from accumulating in the driver, a practical advantage in outdoor installations subject to seasonal weather changes. The polyethylene enclosure supports loads up to 250 lbs, allowing the speaker base to remain safely in place during heavy foot traffic or equipment movement over the installation site. The two-piece design separates the base from the speaker/transformer head unit. In the first installation phase, only the base is planted and wired into the ground, with a protective cover keeping the conduit and junction area clear during ongoing construction. In the second phase, the head unit is installed after all landscaping and construction work is complete, which eliminates the risk of the speaker being damaged by construction equipment or stolen during the interim period. The bayonet attachment mechanism connects the head unit to the base quickly without tools. The switch-selectable 70.7V or direct 8-ohm input accommodates both distributed 70V systems and direct-impedance amplifier outputs. The 32-watt transformer provides taps at 8, 16, and 32 watts at 70V. The short base includes drill points for 4-inch square, 2-gang, or 1-gang electrical box mounting to a deck or slab surface. Frequency response extends from 43 Hz to 20 kHz with a sensitivity of 83.5 dB at 1W/1m (half-space reference) and 360-degree horizontal by 50-degree vertical dispersion coverage. Individual components—head unit (GSH-G), tall base (GSBT-G), and short base (GSBS-G)—are available for separate ordering.

Key Features

  • Two-Phase Installation Design — Base is installed first during construction; head unit installs after site work is complete, protecting the speaker from construction damage and theft.
  • Bayonet Quick-Attach Head Unit — Tool-free bayonet connection between head unit and base allows fast final installation and future service removal.
  • Downward-Firing Driver — Speaker faces down to prevent dust, debris, and condensation accumulation in the driver assembly over time.
  • 250 lb Load-Bearing Base — The polyethylene enclosure structure supports up to 250 lbs, allowing safe site use during construction phases.
  • Triple-Layer Grille Protection — Three-layer grille assembly protects the driver from physical damage and debris ingress in outdoor environments.
  • Switch-Selectable 70.7V or Direct 8Ω Input — Accepts both 70V distributed system connections and direct 8-ohm amplifier outputs from the same unit.
  • 32W 70V Transformer with Multiple Taps — Taps at 8, 16, and 32 watts allow level adjustment within a distributed system.
  • Stable Polyethylene Enclosure — UV-resistant, temperature-stable polyethylene housing maintains structural integrity across wide temperature ranges.
  • 360° Horizontal Dispersion — Even coverage in all horizontal directions makes placement in open areas, pathways, and plazas straightforward.
  • Short Base Surface Mount — Drill points for 4-inch square, 2-gang, and 1-gang electrical box mounting to deck or slab surfaces.

Typical Applications

  • Hotel and resort outdoor landscape audio
  • Theme park ambient sound systems
  • Commercial outdoor plaza and courtyard audio
  • Outdoor all-hands and event space audio distribution

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the two-phase installation process work?

A: The base is installed in phase one during excavation and construction. A protective cover keeps the junction area clean while site work continues. After all construction and landscaping is complete, the head unit with speaker and transformer is attached in phase two using the tool-free bayonet connection.

Q: Can the GSS-G connect to both 70V and direct 8-ohm amplifiers?

A: Yes. The switch-selectable input allows the unit to operate on a 70.7V distributed system or bypass the transformer for direct 8-ohm operation, providing flexibility for different system designs.

Q: What power taps are available for the 70V transformer?

A: The 70V transformer provides taps at 8, 16, and 32 watts, allowing the installer to set the contribution of each speaker to the overall zone budget.

Q: Is the GSS-G suitable for year-round outdoor installation in variable climates?

A: Yes. The polyethylene enclosure is designed for stability across wide temperature ranges and unpredictable weather conditions, and the downward-firing driver orientation prevents debris and condensation accumulation.

Q: Can individual components be ordered separately?

A: Yes. The head unit (GSH-G), tall base (GSBT-G), and short base (GSBS-G) are available as individual replacement or upgrade components.

Q: What is the warranty on the GSS-G?

A: Contact AtlasIED or your authorized distributor for current warranty terms applicable to your region and purchase.
