Product Overview

The Atlas Sound ALA5TAW is a passive 250W 2-way column line array loudspeaker certified to EN54-24 for use in fire alarm and voice evacuation systems. Designed for applications where speech intelligibility is the primary requirement, the ALA5TAW column speaker for commercial paging delivers a 135° horizontal by 45° vertical coverage pattern with a frequency response of 137Hz–20kHz (±5dB) in a compact extruded aluminum enclosure. The EN54-24 certification and 70.7V/100V transformer compatibility make it a reliable choice for life safety systems, corporate all-hands rooms, and houses of worship where intelligibility under all conditions is critical.

Product Description

The ALA5TAW combines five 3” (76mm) full-range low-frequency drivers with two 22mm high-frequency dome tweeters in a sealed line array configuration, producing up to 116.8dB peak SPL from 125W RMS continuous power handling. The 3.5kHz passive crossover handles driver integration, and the 6-ohm system impedance allows direct low-impedance amplifier connection in addition to the 70V and 100V transformer tap options. Available 70V taps of 60/30/15/7.5W and 100V taps of 60/30/15W provide flexibility across a wide range of system designs. Inputs are via a speakON NL4 female connector and a barrier strip, accommodating both portable and fixed installation connection methods. The extruded aluminum enclosure keeps weight low while providing the structural rigidity required for permanent wall mounting. An included wall mount bracket with vertical channel slots allows the installer to slide the mount to the position that achieves the desired vertical tilt, eliminating the need for custom fabrication. An optional pole mount bracket enables use with portable A-Line subwoofer systems for temporary deployments. With 92dB sensitivity and a directivity index of 9.68, the ALA5TAW produces high intelligibility output from moderate amplifier power, which is particularly valuable in distributed systems covering large floor areas. EN54-24 certification verifies that the speaker meets European fire safety standards for use in emergency voice alarm and evacuation systems, making it appropriate for government facilities, commercial buildings, and any installation requiring compliant life safety audio.

Key Features

  • EN54-24 Certified — Meets European fire alarm speaker standards for use in voice evacuation and emergency notification systems.
  • 250W Peak / 125W RMS Power Handling — Handles substantial continuous power for sustained high-SPL operation in large spaces.
  • 116.8dB Peak SPL — High output capability ensures coverage in noisy or large-volume spaces.
  • 5 x 3" LF Drivers + 2 x 22mm HF Tweeters — Driver configuration optimized for consistent speech intelligibility across the coverage pattern.
  • 135° H x 45° V Coverage Angle — Wide horizontal coverage with controlled vertical dispersion minimizes floor and ceiling reflections.
  • 70.7V and 100V Transformer Taps — Multiple wattage taps (60/30/15/7.5W at 70V; 60/30/15W at 100V) simplify integration into constant-voltage distributed systems.
  • speakON NL4 and Barrier Strip Inputs — Dual input options support both permanent installation and portable deployment.
  • Extruded Aluminum Enclosure — Lightweight, rigid enclosure maintains structural integrity across a range of indoor installation environments.
  • Adjustable Wall Mount Included — Vertical channel slots allow installer to set desired tilt angle without custom hardware.
  • Optional Pole Mount Bracket — Enables pairing with portable A-Line subwoofer systems for flexible event deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does EN54-24 certification mean for the ALA5TAW?

A: EN54-24 is a European standard for loudspeakers used in fire detection and fire alarm systems. Certification verifies that the speaker meets performance and reliability requirements for use in voice evacuation and emergency notification systems in commercial buildings.

Q: Can the ALA5TAW be used in a 70V distributed audio system?

A: Yes. The integrated transformer supports 70V taps at 60, 30, 15, and 7.5W, as well as a 6-ohm bypass for direct low-impedance connection.

Q: What amplifier is recommended for the ALA5TAW?

A: Any commercial power amplifier or mixer-amplifier with 70V or 100V output, or a low-impedance amplifier for 6-ohm direct connection, is compatible. Ensure your total tap wattage across all connected speakers does not exceed the amplifier’s rated output.

Q: Can the ALA5TAW be wall-mounted?

A: Yes. An included wall mount bracket with vertical channel slots allows the installer to set the desired vertical tilt angle. An optional pole mount bracket is also available for portable deployment with compatible subwoofer systems.

Q: How does the column line array design improve speech intelligibility compared to a single-point speaker?

A: The line array configuration produces a controlled vertical dispersion pattern (45°) that reduces ceiling and floor reflections — a primary cause of reverberation-induced intelligibility loss. The wide horizontal pattern (135°) covers broad listening areas without requiring multiple speaker positions.
