AMX DXF-TX-SMS – DXLink Single-Mode Fiber Transmitter (Simplex)
Product Overview
The AMX DXF-TX-SMS is a multi-format DXLink single-mode fiber transmitter with simplex fiber connectivity for one-directional HDMI/HDCP and analog multi-format video distribution over single-mode fiber at distances up to 10 km. The simplex design transports video and audio over fiber without bidirectional control signal return — suitable for deployments where control return is handled through a supplemental network connection or is not required at the fiber endpoint. Multi-format source input supports HDMI/HDCP, RGBHV, Component, S-Video, and Composite from the same unit, making it compatible with both legacy analog and modern digital sources in Enova DGX and DXLink fiber installations.
Product Description
The DXF-TX-SMS accepts HDMI input with HDCP InstaGate Pro Technology and analog multi-format video through an HD-15 connector, along with analog stereo and S/PDIF digital audio, then transmits over 9/125 µm single-mode simplex fiber via LC connectors at distances up to 10 km to compatible DXLink single-mode fiber receivers. The simplex design means control signals are not transported over fiber in the return direction — when bidirectional control over fiber is required, the DXF-TX-SMD (duplex) should be specified instead. For complete Enova DGX system deployments, control can be provided through a supplemental independent network connection in parallel with the simplex fiber video path. Audio support includes Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, Dolby Digital, DTS, and multi-channel L-PCM. A front-panel local loopback HDMI output provides non-scaling local display access for installation verification, and USB HID extension is supported for USB control devices.
Key Features
- Single-Mode Fiber up to 10 km: 9/125 µm simplex fiber with LC connectors for one-directional transport over extended single-mode runs.
- Multi-Format Video Input: HDMI/HDCP and analog multi-format (RGBHV, Component, S-Video, Composite) via HD-15 for mixed source environments.
- HDCP InstaGate Pro: Uninterrupted HDMI/HDCP switching with InstaGate Pro Technology.
- Multi-Format Audio: Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, Dolby Digital, DTS, 2–8 CH L-PCM over fiber.
- USB HID Extension: USB Mini A/B for USB control device extension.
- Local Loopback HDMI Output: Front-panel non-scaling HDMI for local display verification.
Typical Applications
- Government Command Centers: One-directional HDMI and analog source transport over long-distance single-mode fiber in secure AV environments where control return is handled separately.
- Enterprise AV Infrastructure: Extended-distance source distribution where bidirectional control over fiber is not required.
- Broadcast Studios: Simplex fiber source input to Enova DGX matrix systems.
- Auditoriums: Long-distance analog and digital source transport to centralized switching infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When should I choose the SMS over the SMD?
- Choose the SMS (Simplex) when control return signals over fiber are not required — for example, when AV control is managed through a separate network or when only one-way video and audio transport is needed. Choose the SMD (Duplex) when bidirectional control over fiber is required at the remote endpoint.
- Can control signals be used with the SMS model?
- Not over fiber. Control can be provided through a supplemental independent Ethernet network connection in parallel with the simplex fiber video path in Enova DGX deployments. Consult the Enova DGX instruction manual for configuration guidance.
