AMX DXF-TX-SMD – DXLink Single-Mode Fiber Transmitter (Duplex)
Product Overview
The AMX DXF-TX-SMD is a multi-format DXLink single-mode fiber transmitter with duplex fiber connectivity, supporting HDMI/HDCP and analog multi-format video (RGBHV, Component, S-Video, Composite) distribution over single-mode fiber at distances up to 10 km. The duplex design enables bidirectional control transport over fiber — including Ethernet, RS-232, IR, and USB HID — making it the preferred choice for complete AV and control signal distribution over extended fiber runs without supplemental control infrastructure. Designed for large commercial AV installations, government facilities, and broadcast environments requiring long-distance multi-format signal transport with full control return path, the DXF-TX-SMD works with compatible Enova DGX matrix switchers and DXLink fiber receivers.
Product Description
The AMX DXF-TX-SMD (FG1010-360) accepts both HDMI (with HDCP and InstaGate Pro Technology for uninterrupted key management) and multi-format analog video via an HD-15 connector supporting RGBHV, RGBs, RGsB, YPbPr, S-Video, and Composite — along with analog stereo audio and S/PDIF digital audio inputs. Video is transmitted over 9/125 µm single-mode duplex fiber via LC Duplex connectors (ANSI TIA/EIA 604-10) at distances up to 10 km (6.21 miles) to compatible DXLink single-mode fiber receivers. A local loopback HDMI output on the front panel provides a non-scaling local display connection for installer verification. USB HID support (USB Mini A/B) allows USB control device extension over fiber. HDCP InstaGate Pro Technology with support for up to 16 sinks per output (when used with Enova DGX) ensures uninterrupted HDCP switching across complex multi-display environments. Audio support covers Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital, DTS-HD MA, DTS, and 2 CH through 8 CH L-PCM for full commercial AV format compatibility.
Key Features
- Duplex Fiber — Bidirectional Control: Single-mode duplex fiber enables bidirectional control transport over fiber including Ethernet, RS-232, IR, and USB HID — no separate control cable return path required.
- Single-Mode Fiber up to 10 km: 9/125 µm single-mode fiber with LC Duplex connectors supports runs up to 6.21 miles for inter-building and campus-scale AV distribution.
- Multi-Format Video Inputs: Accepts HDMI/HDCP and analog multi-format (RGBHV, RGBs, RGsB, YPbPr, S-Video, Composite) via HD-15 on the same unit for flexible source compatibility.
- HDCP InstaGate Pro: Uninterrupted HDMI/HDCP switching with support for up to 16 sinks per output in Enova DGX deployments.
- Multi-Format Audio: Supports Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, DTS, Dolby Digital, and 2–8 CH L-PCM over fiber alongside video.
- USB HID Extension: USB Mini A/B port for USB control device extension point-to-point over fiber.
- Local Loopback HDMI Output: Front-panel non-scaling HDMI output for local display verification during installation.
- Enova DGX Compatible: Works with Enova DGX digital media switchers for matrix-based fiber output in large AV systems.
Typical Applications
- Government Command Centers: Multi-format source distribution over long-distance single-mode fiber with bidirectional control in secure AV environments.
- Broadcast Studios: HDMI and analog source transport over fiber for studio-to-control-room and inter-facility AV routing.
- Enterprise AV Infrastructure: Inter-building source distribution over existing single-mode fiber with full control return path.
- Auditoriums: Long-distance HDMI and legacy analog source transport to a central matrix switcher across large venues.
- Conference Room: Extended-distance AV source connection from equipment closets to centralized matrix switching infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the SMD (duplex) and SMS (simplex) transmitter?
- The SMD (Duplex) model uses duplex fiber for bidirectional communication, enabling control signals (Ethernet, RS-232, IR, USB HID) to travel over fiber in both directions — no separate control cable return path is needed. The SMS (Simplex) model uses simplex fiber for one-directional transport only and does not carry control return signals over fiber.
- Can this transmitter work with Enova DGX matrix switchers?
- Yes. The DXF-TX-SMD is compatible with Enova DGX digital media switchers via DXLink fiber input boards, enabling it to serve as a source endpoint in a large matrix switching infrastructure.
- Does the DXF-TX-SMD support legacy analog sources?
- Yes. The HD-15 analog input supports RGBHV, Component (YPbPr), S-Video, and Composite sources through a breakout cable — the same transmitter handles both legacy analog and modern HDMI/HDCP sources.
- What is the local loopback output used for?
- The front-panel HDMI loopback output provides a non-scaling local display connection at the transmitter location — useful for source verification during installation and commissioning without requiring a separate HDMI signal path.
