Product Overview
The Allied Telesis GS950 48-port WebSmart gigabit switch (AT-GS950/48-10) delivers 48 x 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 ports and four shared SFP expansion slots in a cost-effective web-managed platform. Designed as a high-port-count alternative to unmanaged switches at the network edge, it provides the essential Layer 2 management features — including VLAN, QoS, IGMP snooping, and port mirroring — through an intuitive web browser interface without requiring full CLI or SNMP expertise. It is well suited for SMB, education, and distributed office environments where density and simplicity are the primary requirements.
Product Description
The Allied Telesis GS950 48-port WebSmart gigabit switch runs a simplified web-management interface known as WebSmart, which is distinct from the full AlliedWare Plus CLI used on the GS970M and GS980M series. WebSmart provides web-based configuration, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging, IEEE 802.1p QoS packet prioritization, IGMP snooping for multicast control, port mirroring, and spanning tree — sufficient for the majority of SMB and edge deployments without the complexity of CLI-based management. All 48 copper ports operate at auto-negotiated 10/100/1000Mbps over standard twisted-pair cabling up to 100 meters, supporting standard data, VoIP, and video traffic. The four SFP expansion slots accept 100BASE-FX and 1000BASE-X modules for fiber uplinks to aggregation switches or distribution equipment, providing design flexibility without requiring a dedicated uplink switch. The desktop/wall-mount form factor (1.7 x 17.3 x 12.7 in) makes this switch deployable outside traditional wiring closets, including open-office spaces, classrooms, and retail locations. The unit ships with a US power cord. It is available from Creation Networks at creationnetworks.net.
Key Features
- 48x 10/100/1000BASE-T Ports — Full gigabit copper connectivity for high-density desktop and access-layer deployments.
- 4x SFP Expansion Slots — Shared fiber uplink ports for flexible connectivity to aggregation or distribution switches.
- WebSmart Management — Web-based configuration interface with IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, QoS, SNMP, and IGMP snooping.
- IEEE 802.1p QoS — Hardware-based packet prioritization for voice, video, and data traffic differentiation.
- IGMP Snooping — Multicast traffic control to prevent flooding across all switch ports.
- Spanning Tree (STP/RSTP) — Loop prevention and fast convergence for resilient Layer 2 topologies.
- Port Mirroring — Traffic capture capability for network diagnostics and security monitoring.
- Desktop / Wall-Mount Form Factor — Deployable in wiring closets, open-office spaces, and distributed environments.
Typical Applications
- SMB and mid-market office access-layer deployments requiring high port density
- Education campuses with large classroom or lab switch requirements
- Retail and hospitality environments needing cost-effective web-managed switching
- Distributed branch offices with mixed voice, video, and data traffic

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What is WebSmart management and how does it differ from full managed switches?
- WebSmart is Allied Telesis' simplified web-only management platform. It provides VLAN, QoS, IGMP snooping, and port mirroring via a browser interface but does not include a full CLI, AlliedWare Plus OS, or AMF framework integration. The GS970M and GS980M series provide full management capabilities for more complex environments.
- Q: Does the GS950/48 support PoE?
- No. The GS950/48-10 does not support Power over Ethernet. For PoE+ capability in the GS950 series, see the AT-GS950/18PS V2 (16x PoE+ ports) or AT-GS950/16PS (16x PoE+ ports with SFP combo ports).
- Q: Can the SFP slots be used alongside all 48 copper ports?
- The 4 SFP slots are shared expansion ports. Consult your specific module and configuration requirements for concurrent port usage. All 48 copper ports are standard RJ-45 and operate independently.
- Q: What spanning tree protocols does the GS950/48 support?
- The switch supports IEEE 802.1d (STP) for loop prevention. Rapid spanning tree (RSTP/802.1w) provides faster convergence in environments where link restoration speed is important.
- Q: Is the GS950/48 rack-mountable?
- The GS950/48 is primarily designed as a desktop or wall-mount device. Rack-mount brackets are not included in the standard package. Verify availability of optional rack-mount accessories for 19-inch rack deployment.
