Product Overview
The Allied Telesis AT-GS950/16-50 is a 16-port 10/100/1000T WebSmart gigabit switch with 2 combo 100/1000 SFP bays, designed for energy-efficient edge networking in SMB and enterprise access-layer environments. The -50 suffix designates the ECO variant, which incorporates Allied Telesis energy-saving technology that dynamically reduces power consumption based on link status and cable length. Layer 2 WebSmart management provides IT teams with web-based control over VLANs, QoS, port trunking, and 802.1x security without the overhead of a full CLI-managed platform.
Product Description
The Allied Telesis GS950 16-port WebSmart gigabit switch ECO (AT-GS950/16-50) bridges the gap between fully unmanaged and fully managed switching. All 16 access ports run at full wire-speed 10/100/1000BASE-T, supporting auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDI-X. The 2 combo SFP bays accept 100/1000 SFP transceivers for fiber or copper uplink connectivity to distribution and core layers. The ECO (-50) power-saving mode detects link state and cable length, cutting power to idle or short-cable ports and meaningfully reducing overall switch power draw — a relevant factor for organizations managing energy costs across many wiring closets. WebSmart management includes port-based VLANs, IEEE 802.1p QoS priority queuing, port trunking/link aggregation (LACP), port mirroring for traffic capture, and IEEE 802.1x RADIUS-based port security. The switch supports rack-mount, wall-mount, and desktop form factors. Spanning Tree Protocol (STP/RSTP) is supported for loop prevention in redundant topologies. Available from authorized Allied Telesis resellers including Creation Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What does the -50 suffix mean on the GS950/16-50?
- The -50 suffix designates the ECO (energy-saving) variant. This version incorporates power-reduction logic that lowers port power draw when links are idle or when short cables are detected. It is otherwise functionally identical to the standard GS950/16.
- Q: Does the GS950/16-50 support full Gigabit speeds on all ports?
- Yes. All 16 access ports are 10/100/1000BASE-T, supporting full Gigabit speeds with auto-negotiation. Both the combo SFP bays also support up to 1000Mbps.
- Q: What is the difference between WebSmart and a fully managed switch?
- WebSmart provides essential Layer 2 management features — VLAN, QoS, port mirroring, 802.1x, STP — through a web interface. Fully managed switches add CLI, SNMP, advanced routing, and scripting capabilities. WebSmart is ideal when you need management without full CLI complexity.
- Q: Can I use the SFP slots for fiber uplinks?
- Yes. The combo SFP bays accept Allied Telesis-compatible 100/1000 SFP modules for both multimode and single-mode fiber, as well as copper SFP modules.
- Q: Is 802.1x supported for port-level authentication?
- Yes. The GS950/16-50 supports IEEE 802.1x RADIUS-based port authentication, enabling network access control on a per-port basis.
