Product Overview
The Allied Telesis x530-28GTXM-B91 is a TAA Compliant Allied Telesis x530 multi-rate Layer 3 stackable switch designed for enterprise wiring closets and campus distribution environments where Wi-Fi 6 and multi-gigabit uplink performance are critical. With 20 standard Gigabit access ports, 4 x multi-rate 100M/1G/2.5G/5G-T ports, and 4 x SFP+ 10G uplinks, this switch eliminates bandwidth bottlenecks caused by legacy cabling limitations. As a TAA-compliant enterprise Layer 3 stackable switch with multi-gigabit access, the AT-X530-28GTXM-B91 is well-suited for federal agency IT procurement and organizations with Trade Agreements Act sourcing requirements.
Product Description
The AT-X530-28GTXM-B91 provides 20 x 10/100/1000Base-T access ports for standard Gigabit device connections and 4 x 100M/1G/2.5G/5G multi-rate RJ-45 ports that automatically negotiate to the highest supported speed over existing Cat5e or Cat6 cabling — eliminating infrastructure replacement costs when deploying Wi-Fi 6 access points that require more than 1 Gbps backhaul. Four SFP+ expansion slots provide 10 Gigabit uplink capacity to distribution or core switches, with support for both fiber and DAC cable options. Layer 3 routing via AlliedWare Plus supports static routing, RIP, and OSPF, enabling inter-VLAN routing and campus-scale routing architectures without a dedicated router. Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack) supports up to eight units in a single logical stack, locally or over long-distance fiber links via VCStack LD, delivering chassis-equivalent resiliency in a stackable 1U form factor. Allied Telesis Autonomous Management Framework (AMF) enables zero-touch provisioning, automated configuration backup and restore, and centralized management of all AMF-enabled network devices. Active Fiber Monitoring (AFM) continuously monitors fiber backbone and stacking links, detecting unauthorized physical access or signal anomalies. Ethernet Protection Switched Ring (EPSRing) and IEEE G.8032 ERPS ensure high-speed sub-50ms failover for resilient ring topologies. The switch is TAA Compliant, making it eligible for U.S. federal government procurement vehicles. With dual power supplies installed (55 W system consumption), the -B91 variant supports redundant power delivery for continuous operation in critical environments.
Key Features

- TAA Compliant — Eligible for U.S. federal, state, and local government procurement under the Trade Agreements Act.
- VCStack — Stack up to 8 Units — Logical single-device stack with no single point of failure and near-hitless failover.
- VCStack LD (Long Distance Stacking) — Extend stacks over fiber links across distributed campus buildings.
- Allied Telesis AMF — Centralized zero-touch provisioning, backup, and recovery for the entire network.
- Active Fiber Monitoring (AFM) — Real-time monitoring of fiber backbone and stacking links against physical intrusion.
- AlliedWare Plus OS — Enterprise-grade OS with Layer 3 routing, advanced QoS, ACLs, and comprehensive security features.
- EPSRing & G.8032 ERPS — Sub-50ms ring failover for high-availability network segments.
- Dual Power Supplies (2 Installed) — Redundant power for continuous uptime in mission-critical deployments.
- 1U Rack-Mountable / Wall-Mountable — Flexible installation in standard server rooms, IDF closets, and compact spaces.
Typical Applications
- Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E access point aggregation requiring multi-gigabit backhaul over existing copper cabling
- Federal, state, and local government network deployments requiring TAA-compliant switching hardware
- Enterprise campus wiring closets requiring Layer 3 inter-VLAN routing and stackable resiliency
- Mixed-speed access environments with both standard Gigabit and multi-gigabit device requirements
- Distributed campus stacking using VCStack LD over inter-building fiber links

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What speeds are supported on the 4 multi-rate ports?
- The 4 x multi-rate ports on the AT-X530-28GTXM-B91 auto-negotiate to 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, or 5 Gbps depending on the connected device and cable quality. Cat5e supports up to 2.5G; Cat6 supports up to 5G.
- Q: Is this switch TAA compliant for government procurement?
- Yes. The AT-X530-28GTXM-B91 (B91 suffix denotes TAA compliance) is compliant with the U.S. Trade Agreements Act, making it eligible for GSA Schedule purchases and other federal, state, and local government contracts.
- Q: How many switches can be stacked together?
- Up to eight x530 series units can be stacked with VCStack. VCStack LD allows stacking over long-distance fiber links, enabling distributed campus stacks spanning multiple buildings.
- Q: Can the AT-X530-28GTXM-B91 stack with AT-X530L series switches?
- Yes. The x530 and x530L series support mixed stacking via VCStack, allowing up to eight units of either series to be combined in a single logical stack.
- Q: What is Active Fiber Monitoring (AFM) and why does it matter?
- AFM continuously monitors fiber backbone and stacking links for unauthorized physical tampering or signal degradation. It provides real-time alerts, which is particularly valuable in security-sensitive enterprise and government environments.
- Q: What SFP+ transceivers are compatible with the 4 uplink slots?
- The SFP+ slots accept Allied Telesis-certified 10G transceivers including SR (short-range multimode), LR (long-range single-mode), and direct-attach copper (DAC) cables. Using Allied Telesis-qualified optics ensures full compatibility and warranty support.
