Product Overview
The Allied Telesis AT-TQ1402-01 is a dual-band IEEE 802.11ac Wave 2 (Wi-Fi 5) enterprise wireless access point delivering up to 1.167 Gbps aggregate throughput across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios. Designed for SMB and enterprise indoor deployments, the TQ1402 supports centralized management of up to 3,000 APs through Allied Telesis Autonomous Wave Control (AWC) and provides a PoE-powered, wall/ceiling-mountable form factor with a single Gigabit Ethernet uplink. It is not a Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) device — organizations requiring Wi-Fi 6 should evaluate the Allied Telesis TQ5403 or TQ6602 series.
Product Description
The Allied Telesis TQ1402 802.11ac Wave 2 enterprise wireless access point (AT-TQ1402-01) is a 2-radio AP offering Wave 2 features including MU-MIMO (multi-user, multiple-input, multiple-output) and Band Steering, which intelligently moves capable clients to the less-congested 5 GHz band to improve per-client throughput. The 5 GHz radio supports up to 200 client associations per AP, suitable for high-density classroom and conference room deployments. Virtual APs (multiple SSIDs) and dynamic VLAN assignment enable network segmentation for guest, corporate, and IoT traffic on a single AP. Captive Portal support provides easy guest access management for hospitality and education environments. The TQ1402 can operate standalone via a web interface for single-AP deployments, or be centrally managed alongside up to 3,000 APs using Allied Telesis Autonomous Wave Control (AWC), which automates channel selection, power control, and roaming optimization across the wireless network. PoE (12W) powers the AP directly from the Ethernet uplink — no separate power adapter is required. Fast Roaming support ensures seamless client transitions between APs in large deployments. Airtime Fairness prevents older or weaker clients from monopolizing wireless medium time. Available from authorized Allied Telesis resellers including Creation Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Is the AT-TQ1402-01 a Wi-Fi 6 access point?
- No. The TQ1402 is an IEEE 802.11ac Wave 2 (Wi-Fi 5) access point. It does not support 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) or the associated features (OFDMA, BSS Coloring, 1024-QAM). For Wi-Fi 6, consider Allied Telesis TQ5403 or TQ6602 series products.
- Q: What is Allied Telesis Autonomous Wave Control (AWC)?
- AWC is Allied Telesis’ centralized wireless management system. It automates RF optimization — channel selection, transmit power adjustments, and AP load balancing — across up to 3,000 TQ-series APs. AWC eliminates the need for manual per-AP RF configuration and improves roaming performance across large wireless deployments.
- Q: Does the TQ1402 require a wireless controller?
- No. The TQ1402 can operate in standalone mode, managed via its built-in web interface. For larger deployments requiring centralized management, AWC can be deployed on an Allied Telesis switch or server. No dedicated hardware controller appliance is mandatory.
- Q: What PoE standard does the TQ1402 require?
- The TQ1402 is a PoE Powered Device (PD) drawing 12W and is compatible with IEEE 802.3af PoE (15.4W available). Any 802.3af or 802.3at PoE-capable switch port will power the AP without issue.
- Q: How many SSIDs can the TQ1402 broadcast?
- The TQ1402 supports multiple virtual APs (SSIDs), enabling separate networks for corporate users, guests, and IoT devices from a single physical AP. Combined with dynamic VLAN assignment, each SSID can map traffic to a separate VLAN for network segmentation.
