Overview

The Allied Telesis AT-SPBD20-14/I is an industrial-grade 1000BASE-BX BiDi SFP transceiver providing single-fiber Gigabit Ethernet connectivity up to 20 km over single-mode fiber. With a 1490 nm transmit and 1310 nm receive wavelength, it operates in bidirectional pairs with compatible 1310 nm TX transceivers to deliver full-duplex GbE over a single LC fiber strand. The I-temp rating (-40°C to +85°C) makes it appropriate for harsh outdoor and industrial network deployments. Hot-swap support and MSA compliance ensure compatibility with any standard SFP host device.

Description

Allied Telesis AT-SPBD20-14/I Industrial BiDi SFP 20km

The AT-SPBD20-14/I uses wavelength-division multiplexing to carry simultaneous transmit and receive traffic over a single fiber strand, eliminating the need for a second fiber run on each link. The transceiver transmits on 1490 nm and receives on 1310 nm, and must be paired with a 1310 nm TX / 1490 nm RX transceiver at the remote end to form a complete bidirectional channel.

The 20 km SMF reach covers inter-building campus links, metro access segments, and field site connections over installed single-mode fiber plant. The industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C accommodates deployment in outdoor enclosures, transportation control networks, oil and gas sites, and utility substations where ambient temperatures routinely fall outside commercial-grade tolerances.

LC connector compatibility aligns with standard single-mode fiber patch panels and cable assemblies. The SFP form factor supports hot-swap insertion and removal, allowing maintenance without chassis power cycles. The AT-SPBD20-14/I is compatible with any MSA-compliant SFP port on Allied Telesis switches and routers as well as third-party equipment. For procurement and pricing, contact Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • Single-Fiber BiDi: Transmits at 1490 nm / receives at 1310 nm, enabling full-duplex GbE over one SMF strand and reducing fiber costs.
  • 20 km SMF Reach: Supports Gigabit Ethernet point-to-point links up to 20 km without inline amplifiers.
  • Industrial I-Temp Rating: Operates reliably from -40°C to +85°C for outdoor, transit, and industrial network environments.
  • Hot-Swappable SFP: Allows live insertion and removal in any MSA-compliant SFP host port without disrupting chassis operation.
  • LC Connector: Compatible with standard LC single-mode fiber patch cords and field-installed connectors.
  • MSA SFP Compliant: Works in SFP-compliant ports across Allied Telesis and third-party switches, routers, and media converters.
  • 1000BASE-BX Standard: IEEE 802.3-compliant for interoperability across multi-vendor GbE networks.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial automation and factory floor Gigabit fiber backbone connections
  • Transportation, rail, and traffic management networks with harsh temperature requirements
  • Utility substation and SCADA networks using single-strand fiber infrastructure
  • Outdoor campus or metro-access point-to-point GbE links up to 20 km
  • Oil, gas, and energy sector networks requiring extended-temperature optical transceivers
  • Any SMF installation where only a single fiber strand is available per link

FAQ

What transceiver do I need at the far end of the link?

You need a 1000BASE-BX transceiver with 1310 nm TX and 1490 nm RX at the remote end. Within the Allied Telesis product line, compatible far-end transceivers include models in the AT-SPBD20 series with the -13 wavelength designation.

Is the AT-SPBD20-14/I compatible with commercial-temperature switches?

Yes. The I-temp rating extends the operating range beyond commercial grades, but the transceiver functions normally in standard data center and wiring closet temperatures as well.

What fiber cable type is required?

OS1 or OS2 single-mode fiber with LC connectors is required. This transceiver is not compatible with multi-mode fiber (OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4).

Can this SFP be used in a media converter?

Yes, provided the media converter has an MSA-compliant SFP cage that supports 1000BASE-BX and the 1490/1310 nm wavelength pairing.

Where can I order the AT-SPBD20-14/I?

The AT-SPBD20-14/I is stocked and available for quote through Creation Networks, an authorized Allied Telesis reseller.
